A new die............
I got the new 8" Snails Trail die. It's perfect for using the layer cakes (10" squares) and I can cut 3 blocks with one pass through the cutter.
There are several layouts as well as using an alternating plain block for every other block. I have a couple more new dies I haven't used yet so I'm hoping to make some more trial blocks. If I make them in the right color group I can use them in the Kaffe orphan block quilt I had started designing a few months ago.
I have always like the snail's trail block. I made a miniature quilt using that block and I remember I pieced together a couple of them that went the wrong way. It is easy to do with this block. I just wasn't paying attention. That is a smart idea to make trial blocks that can be used in your Kaffe orphan quilt top.
ReplyDeleteI have thought of getting the snail's trail die and so far haven't I need to use some of my new die's before getting more! This one is really pretty with the colors you show
ReplyDeleteI, too, have always liked this block! And you fabric choice is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI made a snail's trail rainbow wallhanging many years ago, and had to draw out the entire quilt for placement. It's so easy to mess these up like patty a said above!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blocks--Snail's Trail always looked complicated to me...as in:

Ooh, this is fun! I've seen a quilt on the KFC Facebook page that combined this block with a Storm at Sea quilt. It was very cool!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you do with these.
Very nice Wanda. I bought the alphabet die....It was a great sale. I am not good at figuring it out, but will try. I could not pass up the price. I am busy rationalizing that my husband wants me to have this for my 74th birthday this friday!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the Snail's Trail block. I got obsessed with it many years ago and made several quilts with it. It's probably my second favorite block behind the Churn Dash. Both of them have so many possibilities!
