Task of the day............

My task yesterday was to cut battings for several quilts to use up the end of this 30 yard roll.  It is always hard to tell how much is left on the roll when it gets low.  I got batting cut for 4 quilts and the end piece was really wrinkled.  I threw it in the dryer and now it looks great.  This last piece is about 53" x 96" so I'll staple a note with the size on the corner of it and hang it on a hanger near my quilt tops. Eventually I'll have a quilt that I can use it in.

I went out yesterday morning to check on the Four o'clocks and Cosmos.  A tree shades it in the morning and it gets sun in the afternoon.  I rarely plant flower seeds so I am so pleased with this little patch.

The Brown Eyed Susans are right near that patch.  They are really putting on a show this year.

Back up by the house I checked out the tomato patch and this Zinnia was so pretty.  The tomato plants are still producing lots of fruit.  I am sharing with 4 families.  I love to grow them and pick them but could never eat all that I pick.

  1. Walking in Torquay my daughter pointed out some brown Eyed Susans and I commented that you have some. As I've mentioned you a few times she knows who 'Wanda' is now haha. That Zinnia is so pretty - reminds me of when people knit/sew flowers for embellishments, but yours is a lot prettier - enjoy your garden this weekend :)

  2. What kind of batting do you use in your quilts? It looks like Hobbs 80/20.
One of the best things about growing tomatoes is sharing them with others!

  3. I finished up my roll of batting last week. The new one is so daunting big, that I pieced up one from my scrap bin. I label the size on all the large piece and pin it on. I was able to sew two together, thus putting off the new bulky unrolling. Flowers look great. I have some that look terrific, but a lot got blasted by the heat from the past weeks. I have a new pink rose- David Austin type- that has incredible blooms.

  4. What a pretty zinnia...that tangerine color is lovely...
Do you always throw your batting in the dryer? I have never thought of doing that...

  5. When I bought my first roll of batting I thought I was crazy and I would never use all of that. Was I ever wrong! I wish I would have kept track of how many rolls of batting I have bought over the years. I am getting down to the end of my roll of warm and natural; time to start looking for a sale.

  6. Good idea to premeasure the last bit of batting, Wanda. Even smarter to staple the measurement right on the remainder and hang it near your quilt tops!

  8. Four-o'clocks make a lovely seed. An oval shape with a fluted end. My grandmother would send us out to collect the seeds into a round McNess pudding tin. She did plant these seeds, but, looking back, she may have been just keeping us busy.
