I cut more pieces and then pieced the first 4 blocks of Matrix, pattern by SpringLeaf Studios. I think it is going to work well with the Kaffe Collective fabrics. I hope I don't get bored with the same background fabric all the way through.
My Brown Eyed Susans are in full bloom now. They were a gift from a friend named Susan.
The Black Eyed Susans are doing well also. There are only 2 plants in the patch instead of a whole bunch like I used to have. I hope it will fill back in next year.
There is one little renegade plant. When I dug up this Hosta early this summer I could see there was a Black Eyed Susan nestled in but I couldn't get it all out so I went ahead and planted the Hosta. I'll probably dig it up this fall and try once more to separate the plants.
You know fall is near when my largest and latest blooming Hosta is producing flowers. They are sweet smelling a look more like lilies that the other varieties. These were just starting to open yesterday.
The Zinnias in the tomato patch are doing well. They are really stretching up to try to get to the sunlight.
Pbj Fiber M, you leave me the nicest comments but I can't respond to you since you are a no reply commenter. It's OK if you don't want to enable your email in your settings but I just wanted you to know I appreciate all of the comments.
Anne at Springleaf Studios would love seeing her pattern being made up in those fabrics. It will be lovely!

Very pretty background fabric...I didn't know there were both black and brown eyed susans...the black-eyed ones look daintier...hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteAh, the Matrix blocks are beautiful in Kaffe Collective fabrics. I can’t say I knew there were brown eyed Susan’s….perfect gift from a friend named Susan :)
ReplyDeleteI assume the Susans are perennial. Should I buy plants or seeds?
ReplyDeleteYou got those blocks started already? They are looking great and I love the background fabric you picked. You still have so much color in your yard. I don't have any Black or brown eye Susan. It is a very popular plant around here. I haven't taken a walk around the yard since the yard is so wet because it rains everyday! All I know is the weeds have gone crazy and I need to do something about them soon and one of my zinnia stalks got broken off at ground level I think from the wind last week. The plant was top heavy and it just snapped. I did notice the fertilizer/weed killer is working on the creeping charlie (CC)! The yard will probably look bad for a while until the grass can fill in the spots where the CC is dying. I think I will hit the yard with the fertilizer/weed killer again in a month.
ReplyDeleteFun to see your first blocks for Matrix. I've tracked down the tutorial for Simply Woven and plan to start cutting the pieces and parts for that one day soon. And your garden continues to bring joy to all of us - thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteMatrix is going to be fun to follow. I too like the back ground for this unique pattern.
ReplyDeleteTour garden tour never lets us down.

Oops ~ Your garden tour ….
ReplyDeleteAnne’s Matrix pattern works so well with your fabric choices. Your brown and black eyed Susans are so pretty this year. All but three of my zinnias got eaten by rabbits this summer. 🥲.
