I was feeling pretty lazy yesterday, 89 degrees and humid. I pulled out a box of 2" squares that were cut from scraps last year and made 9 patches. There are 20 blocks in that pile and I made 5 more with less matching as I got down to only 2 and 3 alike. I did this to avoid working on borders on my quilt in progress. It's not that borders are hard, I just get less interested in the project at this point.
Today I need to get down to the basement and get busy making 2 quilt backs and cutting some more pieces with my die cutter. It is supposed to be above 90 today and tomorrow and then finally the humidity and temperature will drop a little.
I met the new little baby next door last night. She is really cute. They love the quilt I gave to them.

I hope the neighbors will use the baby quilt and not put it in the cabinet for safe keeping. I always tell the "newbies" to use it up and get in touch with me in 5 years for a replacement quilt, because I expect the 1st one to get USED and LOVED
ReplyDeleteI too write a note with gifted baby quilts that it should not be treated as an heirloom (mine are obvs not the same quality as yours) but put on the rug, grass, etc and washed as needed.
ReplyDeleteIts good to hear someone else doesn't managed to stay interested by the border process. And then binding is a real barrier for me. I need to find someone who enjoys borders and binding the most!

I really used to hate binding. Then someone said, she loves it because it is the last part of the project. I found a better binding ruler so that the joining of the binding always comes out perfect and that has helped. Now, even though I have an arthritic thumb joint, I like sitting and hand sewing the binding. But I agree that you have to be in the right frame of mind for it. Putting together new blocks out of scraps is perfect for hiding from a hot, steamy day.
ReplyDeleteIt has been so muggy here the past few days --no energy in this heat. Your 9-patch blocks are looking pretty...stay cool
ReplyDeletehugs, Julierose
There's something so happy about a pile of scrappy 9-patch blocks, isn't there? Hot and humid, good time to stay down in the cool basement. I hope you get your new a/c soon! We don't have central a/c either, but we have 3 wall/window units, so it feels like central, and it really helps my energy level. Take care and happy sewing!
ReplyDeleteI will have the opposite problem with my house and the heat when I get home today. Every morning I try to remember to move the thermostat up. The upstairs, where the thermostat is located, gets so much warmer than the downstairs so at night I have to turn the temp down. Well, this morning I just remember I had forgotten do to that when I read your post today. Opps! The house will be like an icebox when I get home! LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteyour basement should be cooler I imagine with the heat and only one A/C unit right now - I saw on the news last night how hot it is for all of you right now - the US seems to keep being in weird weather patterns lately - too much rain for some and not enough for others - and the heat waves!
ReplyDeleteHooray for baby girls and a pretty pink quilt.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it grand to have elements ready to sew when you don't feel like cutting? I love it. Unfortunately I have LOTS of elements! Better get to work like you!
ReplyDeleteWe left Illinois 54 years ago, and we still remember the humidity that comes with those high temps. It just wilts a person. I’m surprised you even wanted to sew anything. Hopefully our cool temps and rain is coming your way. It might not make it through the prairie states, but our 90 degree temps did.

Sweet scrappy 9-Patch blocks and great news about the baby quilt, too!
ReplyDeleteYou’re nine patches are eye catching! I know what you mean about delaying in borders…I’m glad someone else that out loud!
