I'm up to 70 triangle squares sewn now, 5" finished. I will need a minimum of 180 squares so I have a few more days of cutting and evenings of sewing before I can go to the design wall. The temperature is going up each day so I might be doing less outside.
My backyard floral baskets are wave Petunias this year. I have had trouble getting them to wave but this group was the healthiest I have ever purchased. I have great hopes they will be draping over the edge soon.
This pesky obnoxious plant is in its glory right now with lots of blooms. The grassy part is already dying back. It is impossible to get rid of it.
I spotted a couple late Jack-in-the-Pulpit blooms in my walk through the garden. The leaves are about 20" tall on this plant.
My pot of Pansies is looking really good. We had frost warnings a little over a week ago and now we may reach 90 degrees on Sunday. Pansies like cool weather so they may be wilting by the time we get through this unusual hot spell.
It cooled off late yesterday afternoon so I got most of the front yard mowed. I will need to finish it this morning before the heat sets in.
Those triangle squares look great. They will provide some happy sewing on these hot, humid days. I think your obnoxious weed is called, Star of Bethlehem. It is in the asparagus family, but don't be fooled. Every part of it is poisonous.
ReplyDeleteI was going to ask what was obnoxious about your white flowers but hefty has answered that question. I just googled - never heard of that plant before! The rest of your garden is coming along beautifully and lots of colour in your pots. I've not been out to buy anything new yet but hope to try next week. We've had rain a few days this week so no watering needed. Still not done any sewing but will try today. Have a great crafting weekend :)
ReplyDeleteYour triangle squares look great...I have to put my parts up on a wall as i go somehow...amazing that you can just make them all before seeing how they are coming together...
ReplyDeleteOvercast here today...still coolish, too...good day for sewing...
hugs, julierose
I am having trouble picturing the HST layout but look forward to it!
ReplyDeleteMy pansies are really happy this year too. I took my annual trip to the Nursery and bought all my summer flowers. We are finally past the frost date and also are to hit 90 today. Going to visit some all -vaccinated friends at their cottage on the lake.
Potted a lot of annuals yesterday. More to do. I have that same obnoxious plant. Those bulbs drive me crazy, but the wild chives are the worst. Love the HSTs.
ReplyDeleteThe weather derailed my yard work most of the week. Not enough to be rain for the most part, just enough drizzle/sprinkle to make it too wet to work out there. Oh well, plenty of work to do inside as well. Or not, and play with fabric and threads.
ReplyDeleteAfter evicting that evil ash leaf spirea, and now working on digging up winged euonymous/burning bush (2 more to go :-( ) putting in yard art instead of plants is looking better and better
Your flowers are beautiful! Even 5he pesky one. I'm looking forward to seeing those hst's when you have enough. I bought a hanging basket of petunias this week and I am so disappointed. No fragrance!
ReplyDeleteI have the Star of Bethlehem as well as Spanish Bluebells and, yes, they both are thugs. I looked up Star of Bethlehem to be sure I had the name right and you would not believe the price people on Etsy are asking for the bulbs. I throw out buckets full every year. Meanwhile the squirrels have been busy relocating many different bulbs all over my yard. Things are popping up in the oddest places.

You sure have a good head start on your squares. Enjoying looking at your combinations and progress.
ReplyDeleteYour baskets on your heart hanger look so pretty against your brilliant green foliage background. I learned something about your pesky plants. Who knew they were not the pretty little thing to avoid.

I discovered a few patches of Garden Star of Bethlehem (the pest you write about) in the ravine last week -- pretty sure that someone dumped garden waster/lawn clippings. When I posted a photo on FB a friend wrote to say she'd be more than happy to share some with me. Now I'm not so sure!
