Meandering seemed fine for this quilt with a medium multicolor variegated thread.
The backing is one of those wonderful batiks that didn't sell well because nobody knew what to do with it. That's OK, I like a good bargain price on them.
I'm using the backing fabric for binding too. I have one long side hand finished, 3 to go.
After lunch I sewed 2 more Crossed Canoe blocks. The red and orange are the leftovers from the fabrics I used for setting triangles on the warm color Kaffe 16 patch quilt.

Always love a good 16-patch. I may have asked this before but am wondering if you pre-wash your fabrics? Especially since you work with intense colors so much. And if you do, do you ever mix pre-washed and unwashed in the same quilt?
Those "oddball batiks", as I think of them, make wonderful backings...often at a greatly discounted price. And the colors in the one you've chosen work so well with the quilt top. This will be a beautiful January finish.

Another beautiful 16 patch, I have a piece of the batik fabric used for the backing, I thin k I have it in three colourways and it's pretty interesting cut into strips at 2 and 1/2".
Isn't it fun how one quilt morphs into another! I love seeing the continuity of our fabrics being used again and again.

Your meandering quilting is one my favorite designs. It gives your patches a softness . Backing couldn't be any better ❣. And for your binding as well. Again a fun set of combinations on your crossed canoes.

I lvoe quilting busy fabrics like batiks, Kaffe and Nadelstern. There's no need for any sort of involved quilting because it can't be seen at all.
