Weird fabric..........

I pulled this batik fabric out yesterday and was surprised when I opened it up.  It looks like it is a test fabric where they were trying out different designs, from Hibiscus to maple leaves to body outlines.

I was surprised when I looked out to the backyard and saw a new Purple Coneflower blooming.  We got a little rain yesterday so my painter didn't come.  I expect to see him today.

I got a glare from the window but this is the color in the backyard during the rain.  My Maple tree is turning red this year and it has only had yellow leaves in the past in the fall.  I need to go out there and take a good look at it today.  The Redbud tree at the far left is still mostly green and the one on the right the pretty yellow and orange.

  1. I am one who likes "weird" tonal fabrics--I have quite a few in my stash--mostly hand dyes. Cutting them up into smaller pieces always give you a surprise...
Raining pretty well here today--which is fortunate as we are officially in a drought. Water conservation has been put into effect...
I love how the leaves glow against the misty clouded skies on a day like this...
    Take care and stay vigilant...

  3. I am beginning to just love small pieces. Before I thought they were just too much work. The weird fabric you showed would be great cut into small pieces because there would be so many varieties in one fabric. Small squares and triangles that vary in color and texture have been calling my name lately.

  5. Fun to see one lone purple coneflower amidst the autumn colors.

  6. I recently planted some coneflowers in the yard I'd grown from seed. I am so looking forward to the flowers next year.

  7. What a surprising batik! I've often thought I should try coneflowers in the garden sometime, do they spread easily?

  8. We are having spectacular color this fall too. I wonder if it is cool weather with no frost that is giving a lot of vegetation a chance to show off? BUT the weather report today says we are supposed to get some of that white stuff falling this Friday. Nasty news! Need to bring in the rest of the tomatoes after all!

  9. Batik designs certainly vary. I think I've finally used all the circa-1990's that looked like healing black-and-blue bruises. <g.

  10. We are having a great color year... this fall! Although we have had a few rain showers now so the leaves are falling fast. I noticed one of the redbud trees on the east side... turn yellow and really didn't think anything of it until you mentioned it! Now I see that the ones in sunnier locations are also yellow and green and not much between the 2 colors! This has been a nice fall... warmish days and cool nights. Not looking forward to winter temperatures, although the opportunity to stay inside... is looking nice!
