I stuck with it yesterday and finished 8 of the Kaffe churn dash blocks.
Now it is time for decisions, is this the finished size? Am I going to leave the large block centered side to side? Is the proportion good or do I need to add another row to the bottom? I still need to rearrange the blocks for better balance but I need to decide on a finished size first. The small blocks are 9" so right now it would finish at 54" x 63".
This is a plant in one of my pots. I love the purple/green mix in them.

54 x 63 is a great recliner quilt size - remember, you said you were going to make smaller quilts (grin). Have fun pondering your options!
I think that is a good size as is; great bursts of color in this one...

I stil like bigger quilts so my feet get covered. All the blocks look terrific. Your plant photo looks like it could be a Kaffe fabric.
Love the color in this quilt top. It will be beautiful what ever you decide.
If I were making this for my family, I'd be adding at least one row, maybe 2 or 3 rows if for DH or DS. But I'm the short one in the family at 5' 10" and like a recliner quilt I can cover toes to shoulders with room to spare. But you wanted to make smaller quilts, so... I got no say in the matter :-)
With the popularity of improv/wonky quilts the past few years, I'm not sure which is more expected (unexpected?) these days - the odd block centered or off- centered.
It's fabulous — striking interplay of colors! It easily could finish "as is". With the horizontally centered big block, though, it does kind of remind me of a door with window. Depends on whether you want to stick with your "make smaller quilts" resolve. If it were mine, I'd bite the bullet and add a row on the right and one at bottom... another 14 blocks. Either way, though, gorgeous, as always...

I find this surprisingly dull due to the static design in spite of the riot of color. Please consider an en pointe arrangement to inject some movement. Fill the jagged edges with HST's of one fabric. The edge would give a line to start the swirl.
I'd add a row on the bottom and on the side -- asymmetry. Or break with the churns and add a different block, or piano keys -- again asymmetrical -- but of course the the same fabrics.
I like the idea of another big block and then I'd move the current one up and then over to the left. I would add the second big block in line underneath it with a row of the smaller ones between them or put it catty-corner in the lower right quadrant somewhere. But....in the end it's your quilt. :)
SEW many questions, Wanda!! Personally, I think it looks good. I definitely wouldn't make it longer without making it wider, but proportion is often in the eye of the beholder. Centered is fine for the big block, but off-center and down a row or two might be interesting, as well. Best of luck on making your final decisions!
I would add one more ow - I make lots of quilt 54 by 72 - close to the golden rectangle sense of rightness.
