Quilting again.........

This Seeing Stars quilt top has been waiting since 2013 to be quilted.  The batting was already cut for this one and the backing fabric was on a hanger next to the top.

The quilting is randomly spaced straight lines.  My top thread frayed out at least a dozen times so I need to change the needle before I quilt another one.

I think this backing fabric is at least 40 years old.  It might have been purchased at a SoFro store in the late 1970s.  I have always liked it and knew someday the perfect quilt woud need it on the back.

I will do the binding all by machine on this one so I'll look for an appropriate fabric today.

  2. I remember when Judy L hosted that sew-along! Quick question: when you hang your finished tops, do you use a regular coat hanger or something made for hanging drapery like cleaners use?

  3. Lovely Wanda. So great to get another one off the TO DO list, isn't it? I have several backings sitting on my shelves and sometimes I wonder if there are too many, but I can't help but feel as though the right quilt will come along for each of them.

  4. It must have been SEW exciting to FINALLY find the quilt top to go with that vintage backing fabric, Wanda!!

  5. I find that my top thread frays if I do straight lines and go quickly. If I go slow, no problem. New needle didn't change that. A bit frustrating as I recently upgraded to a much faster mid-arm machine!

  9. I remember SoFro. Once, we had so many fabric stores in one area- SoFro, Hancock's, Northwest Fabrics, Joanns, plus local ones. Unfortunately, I did not quilt in those days because I did not know how, but longed to. Great Backing and quilt!

  10. That quilt is so pretty! I love the color of the stars against the black and white fabric. You have been doing good getting more masks made! I am going to try and post today what I have been up to if the internet cooperates.

  11. That quilt is absolutely gorgeous, and the backing is perfect! I'm pretty sure I've never seen that one.

Have to say, you make me feel a little better about my unfinished projects. I don't have anything that goes back to 2013. But then, I 've only been quilting for about three years!

  15. I really like that kind of quilting but I can only do straight-ish lines because I don't have channel locks. Love the texture on your quilt.

  16. Oh, that backing fabric is gorgeous! I recently cut some vintage fabric that had nothing written on the selvage.

This quilt is beautiful! It is exactly the inspiration I needed today! I was trying to decide how to quilt a quilt (lol) and was debating between straightish lines and an overall meandering/stipple. Yours sure turned out nicely, I hope mine does too.
