Finish #2 for January 2020

Finally the hand sewing on the binding is done.  It ended up about 54.5" x 70.

The 2 extra strips ended up being almost the same width as each other.

Here is a better view of the backing.  I was glad to finally use that humongous flower print after owning it for almost 20 years.

The colors on this quilt are truer on the close up photos I have shown on previous days.

I sewed rows 5 and 6 last night on the Australian triangle quilt.  They are just pinned below the first 4 rows here.
I moved 5 and 6 up on top of the first 4 rows and then added the bottom 2 rows (9 and 10).  I moved a few pieces in rows 7 and 8 also.  I had to cut 3 more dark large triangles and piece 2 of the small triangle sections to have enough pieces to finish.  Two more nights of sewing and it should be a quilt top.

  1. The 16 patch is really lovely - you must be so happy to finally get rid/use up that 20 year old fabric. Are you trying to stay with your stash this year or buying only when needed? You must have so much beautiful fabric to sew up :)

  2. 16 patch came out so beautifully..nice work. The triangles are coming together nicely; I like the pops of white/off white among those darks...hugs, Julierose

  3. Congratulations on #2! That huge print is so pretty on the back of that quilt. The Australian top is coming along. The fabrics are so interesting.

  4. I am not usually a fan of pastels but the 16 patch really is lovely. You did a beautiful job with it.

I am enjoying seeing all the Australian fabrics as well.

Stay safe with this wintry weather coming. We never know if it will be as bad as they say.

  5. I'm usually not a fan of pastels either (like Lesly)! I'm all about bold and bright, but I LOVE the pastels and the binding...back is lovely and perfect as well. Kansas City is having ice storm today..not stepping one foot out the door. Hoping it's missing you!

  6. Floral pastel is truly a work of art ! It's been a beautiful one to watch from beginning to finish. And moving on to your celebration of triangles is another beauty in the works.

  7. I like how you added two strips on the long edge of the backing. Today I am faced with splittimg a fabric down the long way to incorporate an extra strip in or sewing it along the edge like you did. The fabric that would be split is a small repeating geometric and I am thinking maybe I should leave it whole and just sew the other strip along side like you did.

  9. Congratulations Wanda! The 16-patch blocks compliment the Kaffe blocks so nicely and the binding and backing are just right! Great job!

  11. I'm liking what you're doing with the different size of pyramids and diamond pieces, really effective.
Your pastel 16 patch is one of y all time favourites, I know it's not saturated colour but I find the fabrics and overall feel of this quilt extremely calming.
