Needing rain...........

After all of that rain in the spring, now we are in a dry spell.  My poor Lemon Lily is looking paper thin without rain.

I have a new variety of weeds in my Hosta beds so I spent awhile clearing some of that out last night when it cooled off a little.

The Purple Coneflowers are starting to bloom but they are faded and dry.

The Hostas are in the shade and are doing fine and several varieties of them are starting to bloom.  Some of the ones with plainer leaves have the prettiest blooms.

The Balloon Flowers are a much deeper intense blue than they look here.  They seem to tolerate low moisture well too.

I did more cutting for my many projects yesterday, laundry and a little bit of clean up.  Today is supposed to be cooler and lower humidity but what follows that is 7 or more days in 90s if the weatherman is right in his prediction.  I guess we will have a stalled weather system as Louisiana gets pounded with a tropical storm.

  1. I'm with you about needing rain. Here in North Carolina, it's the same - Hot and Humid. Between my part-time job, I am working on a Judy Niemeyer quilt - one of her 'beginner' ones.

  2. We are in need of rain here too in Ontario with continued heat warnings. Don’t know how things are so dry with such a wet spring. But I’m now watering my gardens. I have the same plants in my beds.

  3. we had so much rain early on now a half in here and there - we will be on the outer edge of the hurricane so for Sun-Tue we might get a bit of rain, the plants have been doing ok but I think for the tomatoes they had too much rain early on and have not done well at all the plants do not even look good - tall and scraggly is the only way to describe them, a few tomatoes but not a good crop at all I'm almost ready to pull them up - but all the flowers are looking good

  4. I am watering a bit every night just to try and keep everything alive. My shasta daisies needed deadheaded again and the heat is making the blooms wither quickly. My coneflowers are looking good. I have dark fuchsia flowers. I will have to post a picture of them tomorrow. I want to keep my lavender well watered because I lost a couple plants due to the high heat last year. And of course I give the squash a drink. We might get some rain today; any would be good.

  6. I'm sure that Glen (aka Quilt Swissy) in Baton Rouge would be delighted to divert much of the rain they're getting to the rest of those who need it . . . the heat index being over 100 for days on end is growing tiresome and exhausting all of us here in the Mid-South.

  7. All of my flower boxes have heated up and are cooking the roots- whether they are watered or not! Hard to keep them cool and alive.
