As I was walking into my studio yesterday afternoon I saw my dark pineapple log cabin blocks (needed just 2 more for a quilt of 35 blocks) and next to them the light blocks waiting for 14 more blocks.......and thought what if I have the light blocks at one end and the dark ones at the other end and merge them with an irregular line of the 2 kinds mixed. It would be a twin size quilt if I do this and I had made the resolution to do smaller quilts this year. I have 8 more blocks made (not on the wall) so I need to still make 8 more blocks if I do this layout. If I continue with my idea of 2 smaller quilts (one light blocks and one dark blocks) I need to make 11 light blocks. I'm not in a hurry to make a decision so I'll just keep making light blocks. Some blocks need to be moved to different positions for a smooth center transition. What do you think of this type of layout compared to others I have shown? For anyone just seeing these blocks for the first time I have previously in February shown all dark blocks, all light blocks, mixed blocks in straight set, mixed blocks on point, light blocks with dark blocks as border and dark blocks with light blocks as borders. You will just have to scroll back through the month if you want to see them.
This little guy visited my backyard yesterday morning and cleaned up under the suet baskets.
I just kept snapping pictures to be sure I got one good one and ended up with 2. His/her head was bobbing up and down so fast there were a lot of blurry ones.
Oh, this is just fantastic! The color movement makes you even forget it is a pineapple block, but a whole quilt. Love, love the color and value shifts. Who cares how much real estate it takes up? This is a unique and rich piece.
This "what if" is the absolute best surprise! I love the merging of the values. It creates movement without making you dizzy or losing the whole effect of the pineapple block. Absolutely the best:)
YES! I think that this idea of yours is the best so far. An all-dark quilt is a bit too "brooding" (though reminiscent of some antique quilts); this shading dark to light brings welcome lightness less formally than arranged as edging or centre. And I think that, for an already busy and dynamic (and beautiful!) pattern, setting on point is an unnecessary complication. heather in Toronto :)

I love that idea. I have decided that quilts stay on the wall, or just hang around for a while sometimes, just waiting for that "aha" moment when you know exactly what to do with them. I've had that happen several times now, and this looks like it could be one. I'm sure I'll love whatever you decide, I normally do.
I love this new idea! It’s fantastic, and one larger quilt won’t be the end of you! It’ll be a great quilt and nice and warm, too, for your long cold winters! Go for it! What an adorable possum! She (I choose to think it’s a female because we generally have a bias in favor of picking the male gender, unless animals are seen with babies, even when there are no indication of gender) is so good for your yard and no harm at all, but I assume you already know that! People are very biased against “possums” unfortunately, I guess perhaps because they think they’re ugly and have “rat tails,” and, of course, they can be pests if you have chickens.

Like we are supposed to tell you how to design a quilt?lol I really like this idea but would like to see a blending down the middle with the darker on the outside so it kind of evens up how you look at it. All or most of light on one end and dark on the other looks like it would appear to be lopsided. Will like what ever you come up with!
