Rectangle top sewn.......

With 2 hours of TV watching I got the last seven rows sewn on this quilt top.  It ended up 51.5" x 72".  It had borders in the magazine but if I just finish it now I can use one of those 60" Kaffe prints on the back and not have to seam it.  I have enough of the red Belle Epoch print.  I'll think about it a couple days and then decide.  I need to start making smaller quilts.  I said that last year and I still kept making them at least 60" x 80" or twin size.  I remember Pepper Cory at a workshop called her quilts one person quilts and two person quilts.  This one is sufficient right now for one person.

For inquiring minds, the rectangles are 4.5" x 8.5" and I cut them with my Studio die cutter with a GO! die and adapter.  There are 111 rectangles and 12 squares 4.5".  I used 14 fabrics and there are 8 pieces of most of them.

  1. I measure my quilt size by "stretched out arms X stretched up arms". It makes a quilt big enough for the dog, me, and 2 kitties. (I am 5'6", the dog is 75 pds, and each kitty weighs 12+ pds). But then I have to re-measure everything when I'm making a quilt for some one else :-(

  2. The colors are so vivid, but those reds are gorgeous. Another morning with measurable snow on the ground...It's pretty to look at, but don't care to be walking around in it. Hopefully you are able to stay inside today.

  3. I use the top of my queen bed. If it hangs over the sides, then it’s definitely a two person quilt. If it fit the top of my double, then it’s a throw.

  4. I vote no borders - looks great just the way it is.

  5. Aah~ another finished top ! And as I write this I know you've moved onto your next one. Or are you going to stitch the backing yet today ?
No snow here but a high of 36 degrees.

  6. Love it, I think borders with the right fabric would be super.

  7. This is pretty with the repetition of some colors/fabrics. A border might take away from that harmony?

We are in winter with about 3" snow on top of freezing rain. The streets are awful!! Nice to look at bright colors when all around is grey!

  8. Wow! I have been trying to get into quilting, wary bc my last attempt over 15 years ago, with little kiddies about me, was a disaster. Haha. Maybe I can do it!
