New project...........

I started on a new project over a week ago but I wanted it to be something new for my art quilters to see before I put it on the blog.  On Pinterest I saw some x and + blocks with all the same light background.  When I made my first quilt of this pattern I used both dark and light backgrounds.  This method makes a grid pattern on top of a background.
Here is the first one I made and I finished it in 2015.  It looks more scrappy with both dark and light background triangles and my eye wants to stop and look at every individual block.  In the new version I have started my eye goes to the overall grid rather than to each block.

You can see I'm using all Kaffe Fassett collective prints for the dark and medium fabrics and a very nice black on white script fabric for the light triangles.

  1. You are so right about the way the eye travels differently on the two quilts--love them both.

  2. I think I really like the new version better! It does give the eye an opportunity to explore the various depths... rather than the various fabrics!!!

  4. Seeing the two together definitely validates what you are saying about the eye being drawn to each individual block in the first one. My eye is drawn to the 2nd. one, where I can appreciate the quilt as a whole. While they are both beautiful, I definitely like the newer version of this quilt.

And what fun to see your 2015 design. They don't even look like the same pattern. Love the warm cozy feeling from this one. Two awesome designs Wanda.

  7. I LOVE this with the uniform background. It has been one of my favorite scrappy quilt patterns and using the same light throughout makes a fantastic design.

  8. It has to be fun figuring out the combination of fabrics you want to use in each block. This is going to be a pretty quilt!

  9. I absolutely LOVE this new X and + quilt! I've been hoping you'd make one out of Kaffe fabrics. I'm currently working on one for my guest room using all KFC browns and yellows, with the background in the Pond green polka dots! Can't wait to see this done!!! LOVE IT!

Here's a link to a Facebook post with a mock up that I made with the first few blocks.

  10. I love this - ironically we must have seen the same image on Pinterest because this approach was going to be my game plan, too!

  13. It is amazing how the layout of the same pattern makes such a big difference in the look and mood of the quilt. Both are lovely, but I do like the alternating colors better. It is more busy, less calming, but more interesting.
