I have changed my mind and am going to make this quilt smaller than the one in the Kaffe Fassett's Quilts in Sweden book. It is 93" x 87" in the book. That isn't quite square and not a good rectangular proportion for me. As a couch quilt square quilts don't cover bodies well unless you are using them diagonally. I like them long enough to cover a tall body but not so wide that they are in piles beside the body. I tend to be a little practical rather than making sizes that few people can use.
I added a few more pieces and took another photo. This would be 63" wide at this point but it has borders too. I haven't put any of the 3.5" squares up there yet. They have to be overlapped to compensate for the seam allowances as they fit with the larger square. I'm using the general layout of sizes in the book but since I'm using a lot of different fabrics I can't follow the colors/values exactly, nor would I want to.
Here is a reminder of the quilt. Click on the photo to enlarge and then click again to make it even larger.

I love that you make your quilts "to fit", I do to, for me, they have to be width of my arm span, and at least 12" longer than I am tall :-) I try to 'measure" gift quilts the same way for the person that receives it, unless I know it's going for a certain bed size, then that's the size I go for.
I agree. Square quilts, if small are ok because they can be a wall quilt. I want a quilt someone can lay down under. Your colors are gorgeous.
Lately I seem to complain to myself about the sizes of quilts that I would want to make. I always reconfigure the quilt I’m making because the size isn’t what I figure anyone would use. Most of what I make are bed quilts but now I’m planning on some couch quilts for tall grandsons. Your fabrics are very pretty.
Size is definitely something to consider when looking at a pattern, although I have to admit that I hardly ever do at the very outset. When making up my own pattern, the size is a bigger consideration.
Always love the fabrics you select, they look even richer than the photo in magazine. Your design is going to be gorgeous.
re: Kaffe Fassett magazine 'Sunlight in the forest'... I see those 4 light camel/aqua blocks close to center, and I am not sure I like them. I think they are a bit of distraction compared to the rest of blocks. My eye goes right to them every time I look the photo. Other wise it is a spectacular piece.

Totally agree about sizing. Most of our quilts seem to be used on couches, or just to cover. We are both tall, so a square quilt is just not going to work.
