Looking for strips...........

I pulled out my boxes of strips that are cut from Kaffe Fassett fabrics to choose a few to try the piano keys border for the butterfly quilt.  I pulled just partial strips out.

I put a few strips up there to simulate a piano key border.  I don't think I like it so I might just choose one of the large prints from the collection and do a border with it.  Maybe one of his dotted fabrics would look nice.

  1. That is a great way of trying out an idea without cutting any fabric. You are just so organized!

  2. You are rigiht, the piano keys take away from the butterflies. Dots might work. The butterflies need to be the stars. Love the way the cornerstones turned out- just flecks of colors.

  3. Call me crazy (call me a cab!)......I think a black "border"--the size of the pieces in the butterflies--would nicely frame the piece. It would set the last set of red squares, and might allow some interesting experimentation in the outer border. I didn't care for this quilt when you started it but am becoming "fond" of it as it grows!!!

  4. I agree that the piano key border doesn’t work, hopefully you will find a border print that does.

  5. Do you have more of the beautiful background fabric? I wonder if that would let the butterflies float and fly instead of being restrained inside a strong border? Just a thought.

  6. I enjoy the way you tease us as you move along with your designs. I'll check in tomorrow to see what you've come up with for your butterflies.. It's got to be in one of those boxes. (*._.*)

  8. I definitely agree with Linda, in that you are taking away from the focal theme of the quilt instead of framing it.

  9. Your idea about the dotted fabric framing those beautiful blocks sounds wonderful! How gorgeous those blocks are! I enjoy every posting you make, and just wanted to say 'thank you' for those -- its a little like hearing from a good friend. Best wishes to you! Deb E / Oregon mdenders@msn.com
