Cutting.................

I mentioned this project a while back and had the fabric stacked together on a shelf.  While my friends were here I started doing the cutting for it.  The light fabric will be cut in strips and is the background.  I'm doing the version in the small photo but I am making it larger than pictured.
I have just one bloom on this cactus and it is huge.  I think it had one bloom earlier this winter too.

The orange cactus has several buds and one bloom opened yesterday.

The other orange plant has several buds too.  It had one bloom earlier this winter.  I see that my white one that has already bloomed has buds again.

One more day for the pop-up shop.  It closes tomorrow night at midnight Eastern time.  All of the new close up photos will go away so you have one last chance to see the quilts up close if you haven't been there yet.

  1. What do you do with your cacti during the summer to get the to bloom now? It has been so long since I have had cacti. Did get two before Christmas after seeing yours. Thanks

  2. Have you decided on the colored pieces for this quilt? I would love to see what you are considering for it.

  3. I have been collecting black and white fabric with letters, text on them for a couple of years and can't figure out how to use them. Looks like you found out how to use your black and whites.

  5. I like what I see with your display of black 'n whites. Another fun one to work on.

Thanks for showing more Cactus blossoms, at least I get to see yours... I am still waiting for my plant to take hold and do something. AND ~ ~ ~ I did a double take when I saw the frog... like I couldn't believe what I was seeing, at first I thought it was your cactus plant over flowing the stand. He is a cutie for sure.

And thank you for sharing your "secret bio" and free tutorials.

  6. I'm looking forward to watching the Interweave quilt come together. I like the puzzle side to it.

  7. Looks like all the B&W fabrics are batiks, is that correct? It’s going to be a great piece and I’m excited to see it progress. And also curious about the “accent” or contrasting color choice? Looks like a fun pattern.
What did you decide for the remainder of the neutrals? I loved the way those quilts turned out. The fabrics aren’t as exciting to look at while you’re working with them, but the final results are very soothing and peaceful. I like them a lot. It’s the same way I feel about brown quilts. A lot of my friends are very disdainful of Brown fabrics, for some reason, but I’ve made a couple of quilts using brown fabrics, and while they can be a bit dark and “boring” I also think they’re very peaceful and comforting. Which isn’t at all a bad thing for a quilt to be! Not all quilts have to be exuberant and exiting! It’s OK for some to be different, that doesn’t make them ugly in my opinion.
