I ended up adding 7 more fabrics for a total of 48 fabrics and one more brick to each of the horizontal rows so now it will be 72" wide. Remember when I said I was going to make more smaller quilts because I already had too many large ones? Well, I blew it. It will be 93" long if I stop with a full brick row and 96" if I end with a row starting with half bricks, to be determined later.
I still have this many fabrics left after cutting for this quilt. Most of these are at least a quarter yard and some are over a yard.
The art quilters were supposed to come Monday but there is snow predicted starting Sunday night and lasting into Monday morning so I cancelled. I have emailed them and am waiting to hear back for when they want to reschedule.
The variety and tones of the fabric give it an almost translucent quality. I guess you do need all those fabrics to achieve this look. Love large quilts. Hate coming up with backings.
ReplyDeleteI love the quilt and the colors.
ReplyDeleteI like the 93 inch long size.
That makes it a Twin xtra long.
Perfect for a throw for tall people.
Let me know if you would part with this one.
Wanda, I really like the brick quilt made with the Batik fabrics even more than the 16 patch.
ReplyDeleteYou are fortunate to have so many to choose from in the neutral colors and will be quite elegant when finished.
Like others, I really like these neutrals, it goes with my barren landscape around my house. It’s very cold here too but no snow on ground, some is predicted Monday here too.
ReplyDeleteMysterious, more than surface deep, worth investigating - that's what these beautiful neutrals make me think. We have snow and it is snowing again now. Temp in the lower 20s so no signs of melting for another day or so at least. The city was shut down yesterday and much of it will remain shuttered all weekend (youth activities and most non-essential services).
ReplyDeleteThis is even more beautiful enlarged on my desk top computer ! You have begun the New Year with a quilt top that is absolutely intriguing . A treat to see it keep growing.

This feels like a perfect winter quilt — fabrics reflecting outside landscapes and of a size to keep one or two people warm and snuggly. I've discerned "sort of" a pattern in my quiltmaking... the colder the weather, the bigger the project. Maybe I just don't want to wrestle with a lot of fabric when it's hot out. Anyway, your quilt has a lot of depth and mystery, and will be wonderful in front of someone's fire on a chilly night!
ReplyDeleteWe have a chance for wintry mix Tuesday morning, the day I usually join friends to sew...waiting to see what happens. It would be pretty unusual here, which means we are especially dangerous driving.
ReplyDeleteI'm new to your blog. I LOVE this quilt in progress. You never seem to have to "run out" and buy fabric. Where does your "stash" come from?
ReplyDeleteWanda,
ReplyDeleteThis quilt could be one of your bed quilts if you add some zebra prints. I think the colors would all go with them. Maybe you have some batik zebra prints.

I love the colors in this quilt. I looked thru my batiks yesterday and found out that I don't have any of those colors. I have mostly greens. I'm going to have to shop for more neutral batiks.
ReplyDeleteI just finished a brick quilt for my granddaughter. It was pinks and greens (her favorite colors) and I sewed the bricks vertical. It's at the quilter's shop now and I'm excited to see it when it's finished.
