Finish # 23 for 2017............

I knew this would be another fast finish since it is just a small lap quilt, 34.5" x 44.5".  I made the top in May this year with all of the leftover triangle squares from two other projects.

I had a large piece of this black with beige stars batik fabric from the 1990s to use for the backing.

I used the channel lock on my longarm to do randomly spaced straight lines for the quilting pattern.

I knew a beige print would look good with the stars on the back and also would be a good neutral for the colorful front.

I went through all of my red batiks looking for more to use for the crazy pieced blocks.  I found 50 that I think will work.  Now I need to press them and then cut off a 9" length from each of them.  The trimmed size of the blocks is 8.5".

  1. It's lovely, Wanda. Thank you for all your posts, and for the quilty things you have mailed me. I love the snail's trail quilt, which look so rustic on our bed and is helping us stay warm here in the Upper Midwest. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year filled with blessings and good health. Andrea

  2. Beautiful, Wanda. When you do straight line quilting, do you quilt each line in the same direction or go back and forth in alternating directions?

  5. What a great finish to end the year. Those red blocks are looking great and I look forward to seeing the end result. My cactus cutting still has lots of buds but 2 are now in full flower and ready to open in the next couple of days. I hope the plant survives until next year, then I can get it into soil. In case this is my last comment for a while then I'm wishing you a Merry Christmas and good health and happiness for 2018. Thanks for a year full of enjoyable and inspiring posts :)

  12. Bravo! I haven’t finished a single quilt this year But I’m overjoyed because I just completed a very complicated and time consuming top, which I’ve been working on for 2 1/2 years on and off! I’ll send you a picture of it when I get one - I have to wait until I go to my retreat in January as I don’t have a suitable wall here at home. It’s large and you cannot teally appreciate it unless you get some distance from it, and I don’t have both of those requirements anywhere in my house. Next year I’ll be able to go back to more regular projects which take less time and I’ll have my normal number of finishes. I cannot wait to get some sense of completion. I have quite a pile of Works in Progress calling my name, as well as tons of ideas.

  13. That really made a pretty quilt! The more extended zig zags make a nice change, don't they?
