2012 was a big year of many changes. I did finish a lot of quilts because I had my solo show in a gallery in NC. There is a video on my right sidebar with me talking about all of the quilts in the show. It is hard to pick a favorite from that year so I picked the 3 top favorites. This is Rainbow River, a quilt made with crazy pieced squares. It was used as the mascot of the solo show on the postcards.
This piece was so under priced at the show that I was happy it didn't sell. It hangs in the hallway to my bedrooms, visible from the living room. This post shows some of the close quilting better. I changed thread color many, many times in this quilt.
I really love this colorwash made with regular quilting cottons in brighter colors. My daughter owns this one now. I finished 2 other colorwashes in 2012 and I love them too.
I didn't do anything in the studio after the art quilters left. Hopefully I'll get some more cutting done today on the Australian Hunter Star quilt.
I love all three! 2011 is the first year I had started to save pictures digitally. I went back to look at my quilts for 2012. I made 32 quilts in 2012 but most of them were baby sized - 38x52. Of all those quilts only two are still in my possession - a wall hanging and a baby quilt.
Thanks for pointing out your video in the sidebar. The only thing better would have been to travel the 2 hours to the show when it was here in North Carolina. (I would surely have purchased a Rainbow River mug to bring home with me!!)
I enjoyed your show in Charlotte, NC. It was awesome! I learned a lot about color during your color class. Light, medium and dark values. My stash was full of medium and dark fabrics with no neutrals and lights. My quilts looks better now. Thank you for visiting North Carolina, Wanda.
Love all 3 of these quilts, especially the 2nd Improv one - that quilting would have taken you hours with changing the threads colours so many times - you must be happy to still have it in your possession; it would look good on my wall as well :)
Rainbow River has always been one of my very favorites of your quilts. I think the blocks for it were under construction (or others very much like them) when I first discovered your blog way back when.
Your color wish pieces always steal my heart. You are the master of color washes. I am sure your daughter smiles every time she looks at her Moms work of art.
