Partially sewn..........

Yesterday afternoon I sewed the first 12 rows together.  It takes 7 minutes to sew each seam from top to bottom, matching each intersection.  Last night I sewed the last strata, pressed it and cut the remaining 15 pieces that I need to finish the top.
I have had a little branch of cactus in a glass with a little water for almost a year now and it has a nice root ball but I just haven't gotten around to planting it.  All of this time I was thinking it would have red blooms so imagine my surprise when it got a bud and bloomed and it is from the plant with the big pink and white blooms.  I really need to get it planted now.

Chicago really got socked with lake effect snow yesterday.  I am 60 miles west of Chicago and we had a new coating of snow on the ground when I got up but the city and close suburbs had snow from midnight until afternoon.  The airports had 7.7" and 9".  Out here in the boonies we had about 10" of snow in the first half of December and it was bitterly cold and then only about 3" of snow in all of the months since then.

  2. The TAW looks great and is coming along fast! What a pretty bloom! We didn't get that much snow, but it is cold and windy.

  3. Black and white squares are looking good. We are close to 18" due to the nor'easter backlash pulling snow from Lake Ontario, which does not usually happen. Usually, Lake Erie is the culprit. If it stops during daylight, I will photograph a newly done quilt outdoors.
    Great flower!

  4. sounds like you lucked out on not as much snow as Chicago had - good! I was thinking that you would need to take it easy with trying to shovel out for sure. Love the quilt and the flower would be a nice surprise I imagine I without the plant being in a pot.

  5. Would love to see the TAW quilt in real life. I suspect the photos don't do it justice! Hadn't thought about doing a start with my Christmas cactuses. Just water--great idea.

  6. Your TAW is coming together so well.

Chicago did get a lot of snow. Good thing it is almost spring.

  7. Love your "I Spy" placemats, I am just imagining your little great grandson having more fun looking and pointing to everything he knows.... Instead of eating. (*._.*)

So now you get the snow... and cool temps... we have been there ~ done that ~ far to long in our neck of the woods and I am elated to see flocks of robins coming in for spring. Finally with temps of 50 and 60 degrees.

Only you can design a black and white piece to be spectacular !

Your green thumb is amazing... I just can't imagine your Christmas cactus blossoming before it gets planted.

  8. I am confused by your TAW. Before the strips are sewn together, they look like squares but when you sewed the length of them together, they now look like rectangles. How are you achieving this look?
