I spent a lot of time in the basement yesterday. I cut lots of 6" flannel tumbler blocks but didn't get around to sewing any rows of them. The other thing I did was to go through 2 boxes of miscellaneous stuff in the basement. In one of the boxes I found these 7 crazy pieced blocks. They are a little too large for mug rugs or as a double row in a table runner. I will probably throw them in the batik orphan block box. Today I want to sew some rows of tumblers. I also need to press fabrics for backings, a job that I hate to do.
I hate pressing. I guess we got spoiled with perma press clothing. I dug into a box the other day and found some crazy/crumb blocks which is a good start on a couch throw. Fun to find things to work with, but you wonder why you started them and never finished. Chris
Those are such neat blocks! I bought an iron ($$$) at a home show that has a boiler inside and a steam button that shoots jets of steam and makes instant work out of pressing. It penetrates through 2 sides at once. Since it is so quick and does such a terrific job, when it comes to steam pressing, I don't mind it at all. I use a Panasonic cordless on dry for everything else.
I am like Linda Swanekamp; I enjoy ironing. I even iron my bed sheets. Several years ago I invested in a Rowenta with a steam tank and what a difference!
Backing can be a job to press for sure! I have a pressing pad at the end of my big table so at least I don't have to fight with the fabric falling over the sides of an ironing board which is how I use to do it years and years ago.
Love your tumblers. Are you putting a flannel backing on? I'm doing a 6" flannel tumbler with a cotton backing. I was wondering if I should Wash the flannel before I put the backing on. Alice
Hi Wanda, I don't know if you have a dryer with a steam cycle, but if you do, it does an amazing job of taking out wrinkles that have been set in for years! I cannot tell you how much I love that steam cycle. Twenty minutes and all my creased fabric is ready to use! (If you don't have one, make friends with a neighbor who does!)

You might think of selling your wonky log cabin blocks. It could be just the start someone else would like!
