The weather changed in the middle of the day yesterday to slightly cooler and a lot less humid. I decided to mow the grass late in the afternoon. Then I got my camera and took some garden photos.
Here is the little garden on the driveway. My Dinner Plate Dahlia plants are getting big. I can't wait to see how big the blooms are.
I'm pretty sure this is Swamp Milkweed. As soon as it is done blooming I'm going to dig it up and plant it somewhere else. It is right at the edge of the sidewalk and tends to lean over the sidewalk.
The Rose of Sharon are blooming.
I have two shades of lavender and this is one of them.
The Tiger Lilies will be blooming soon. The ones in the backyard are really tall and the ones in the front (facing east) stayed shorter this year. There are coneflowers all around this plant. I just turned around and faced the other direction and took the photo below.
This year has been a great year for flowers and trees. We had just enough moisture and the Winter wasn't so harsh. Our yard is very pretty this year as yours is. Enjoy. Chris
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your garden along with your quilts. I've been living in sub tropical Gulf Coast for 38 years and I still miss so many of the plants you share on your blog.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous garden. I am partial to sunflowers and the photo of it with the red wheelbarrow is stunning. The beauty of flowers keeps me watering and watering through this drought. The beauty makes it so worth it as evidenced by your photos.
ReplyDeleteI need to decide where to put my Rose of Sharon that my sister in law gave me. I'm trying to decide if it would do better with part morning sun or sun most of the day. I will let it be in it's pot for the rest of the hot summer and plant it in early fall. The pot should be full of roots by then.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is looking very nice! About that milkweed - IIRC, it doesn't like being transplanted once established. Maybe stake the offending stalk, wait for it to go to seed and then try transplanting? That way you'd have the seeds to put where you want the plants, just in case it doesn't survive the transplant. If it does survive, you have seeds to share. I *think* the tags on the ones I got this year say it can get to 3 ft tall.
ReplyDeleteThanks you for sharing your flowers and yard. It is sooooooo hot and humid here in SC. My flowers and plants are struggling. Stay cool.

You have a lovely garden. Lovely plants/flowers/colors. I have a white hydrangea that is full of blossoms. I'm going to bring some into the house to enjoy. They usually turn green....don't know why... Am enjoying the white and my dogs are leaving it alone. Enjoy the cooler temps.
ReplyDeleteYour gardens look wonderful! My tall lilies are in full bloom now and are beautiful.. Love this time of year. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteSeems like you were surprised to see the sunflower plant - did you not plant the seed? How are the elephant leaves coming along - bet they are much bigger now. Your garden is looking really pretty - have a nice weekend now that it's a bit cooler :)
ReplyDeleteJust lovely! I always enjoy seeing your pretty flowers.
ReplyDeleteLovely gardens. My Tiger Lily are blooming, but not my Rose of Sharon or Hibiscus. I love the lily of any kind and try to add a new one every year.
ReplyDeleteLove the photo of the wheelbarrow with the sunflower. Nice!
