There were no finishes in May. I spent a lot of time outside instead. I did have some finished tops however. I still haven't decided whether the one on the right will get a border. I am tempted to just quilt it as it. It is 66" x 88", not quite a bed size, but do I care? I usually let recipients chose a quilt from a group chosen by me and then I find myself apologizing that they aren't bed size. I think I need to get past that.
In a previous post I showed the colorwash quilt both like this and a 180 degree turn (which is the way I designed it). See it here. I think that this way it looks like flowers at the bottom and sky at the top. The other way the it looks like the sun at the top. It is made of rectangles that finish at 1.5" x 3" and it ended up 39" x 53".
Before I took the Drunkard's Path blocks off the design wall to move to a double size design wall I turned a few to different positions to try another layout. I think this looks like bouncing balls. I will play with the blocks on the larger wall today.
I planted one more pot to go by my garage. The Coleus will give me color without any blooms in these pots.
The colorwash is spectacular- especially since it is from rectangles- has to be much harder than the squares.
ReplyDeleteI found the lacey sweet potato vine you gave me the name of! I bought too few plants for the pots and need to go and purchase more somewhere good.
Thanks for the eyecandy this morning.
Love the "bouncing balls" layout of the drunkard's path blocks!
ReplyDeleteat this time of year we all need to step back from our quilting and enjoy the great outdoors I think - you still got a lot done!
ReplyDeleteI love the depth of the colorwash quilt. The bouncing balls layout is much more interesting to my eye.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteRe size: I think sometimes that bedsized quilts carry with them a sense of "preciousness": they are such a major accomplishment that they cry for our protection, and so end up as a showpiece on a bed. I would always rather receive a healthy lapquilt. I want to wrap myself in it for bigchair naps, to fold it over the edge of my sofa (hiding the age/infirmities), and--eventually--to carry it in the car for picnics and beach visits. The zig zag quilt would be a perfect candidate for that kind of loving use.
ReplyDeleteYou made some beautiful tops in May. I like the bouncing ball layout too!
ReplyDeleteYou had such a productive month - both inside and out.
ReplyDeleteI just love what you have done this month, such beautiful quilts. I try and make my quilts a certain size if they are a lap or a full. I never like the quilts too long compared to the width, some patterns I buy have that and I change them to a more normal rectangle.
ReplyDeleteDon't apologise to your readers about not having a finish - we are all impressed by your never ending output! I love your plaid Drunkards Path.
ReplyDeleteThe second version of the drunkard's path is so much more interesting!
ReplyDeleteThe glow coming from your colour wash quilt is just amazing! Quite mesmerising actually!
ReplyDeleteDear Wanda. as always, beautiful color work. I never cease to be amazed at your talent! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove the bouncing balls layout...sort of random, but much more interesting.
ReplyDeleteI love the bouncing balls too! It is such fun, hard to believe it is from the same blocks as the one on the right - what a difference!
