I sorted scraps yesterday and cut some more pieces for this set of blocks. I have 23 blocks sewn now, approximately 8" finished. I decided to try a light batik as every other block. I laid the yardage on my table and placed the blocks on top of it. I liked the first one I tried but there wouldn't have been enough of it. This is a larger piece and one of my favorite light batiks. Even with the alternate blocks it is too small for a couch quilt. I'll go back to working on the triangle quilt today while I think about this.
I'm linking to Scraptastic Tuesday with this post. Check out what others are doing with their scraps.
why does it have to have a "consistent" alternate block? There is such a richness of batiks in the star blocks, it could comfortably absorb more variety in the side blocks. And that would give you a chance to play with those blocks merging at times into star batiks. I find lighter batiks a bit tough to come by, but your stars seem to have an abundance of workable choices.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the name of this light batik? It is lovely.
ReplyDeleteThe stars shine against the light batik. Hard choices for you.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful light batik and it looks great with the blocks. Maybe mixed with other lights.....
ReplyDeleteOne thing I so enjoy about this blog. Just as I get settle into enjoying how gorgeous a project is, there are a few great ideas in the comments that get me thinking about it even more. Win-win for me.
ReplyDeleteThat is the perfect fabric for the alternate blocks. It is too bad you don't have enough, but sometimes a more creative solution will emerge. I can't wait to see what you come up with!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that light batik with the blocks.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is pretty! I love the batik in the alternate blocks!
ReplyDeleteI love that leaf print for the alternate blocks!
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteI really like this layout - and it changes the look of the block so much.
Thanks for sharing.

Sometimes the best solutions happen when I "make do" with fabric I have, instead of running out to buy something. Looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteI just know you will find a good solution!
ReplyDeleteI bet you'll find just the right fabric in your amazing stash! Both of the ones shown were great, does it have to be just one fabric or could you use two or three?
ReplyDeleteI've followed the writer of the Scraptastic Tuesday blog for a while and love what she does. Glad you linked up yesterday!
They'd make a superb border for a medallion quilt if you are still thinking what to do with them! Then you just need to think what else to go with them... Love them. Thank you for linking up to #scraptastictuesday
ReplyDeleteOh, Wanda, you've been accomplishing so much!! I've not visited your blog for quite a while. Looks like you're really busy!! I love the little kite quilt and your triangles. I think I will start cutting some of those out on the accuquilt - it will make it so much easier!!! Take care - Patty Cramer - otterpc@aol.com
ReplyDeleteI have finally been able to get back to your blog after my daughter's wedding and all the preparations. These kite blocks didn't speak to me at all probably because they are a language I have never heard before but on the light batik fabric I totally get them and think it looks great. You are clever!
