Playing and starting another new one.........

Every so often I get out all of my batik orphan blocks and put them up on the design wall.  This time I'm going to measure them and make a list to put in the box with them.  On the floor is a stack of 6 paper pieced stars, 5 Blazing Star blocks, a stack of 6" blocks and some miscellaneous.  There are quite a few of the red and purple 16 patches leaning against the wall too.
This is the beginning of the next Stack and Slash quilt, a mix of plaids, stripes and prints.

  1. Your orphan blocks are almost arranged as a color wash right now....it might be an interesting experiment to see if you could turn them into one???

  2. Always fun to see the progress. You can be challenged with a small stack and make something very interesting with this stack. Have fun with them. Chris

  3. I love all the blocks. What is the quilt that the plus sign blocks are from? I think it was recent, but I don't know how to look it up. Lots of ideas on that wall.

  4. I usually put my orphan blocks into backings as I like a pieced back. Many times my pieced back is the more interesting side of the quilt.

  5. I agree with Sharon! Those orphan blocks look wonderful on the wall together. I think I would be tempted to try and put them all together in one quilt.

  7. Those are some beautiful orphan blocks! Do you eventually mix and match them into a quilt? Or mostly use them for smaller projects?

  9. What a great collection of orphan blocks and good idea to make a list. Love the bright, light half square triangles pretty much in the centre, be interesting to see if these show up in a future quilt from you.

  11. Inventory notes can be useful (and so are the photos you share here) . . . but you already know that!
