Cutting.......

I had a busy day yesterday, hair cut, grocery shopping and a long lunch with a friend.  I couldn't make a decision on the border of the medallion quilt so I cut triangles.  I mentioned when I made the other Marcia Derse quilt top that I had some more intense colors of her fabric .

I rearranged some for this photo making larger triangles out of 4 triangles with either color or value matching.  I have used 2 of each fabric in these 2 layouts and I cut 6 of each.  I wanted to put them up on the wall and study the colors together to decide if I want to limit it to certain colors or let it be very multicolor.

I will try to make the decision on the medallion quilt today so I can continue and make the next border.

Today my first born child turns 55.  He was the first grandchild on my side of the family.  My dad had so much fun showing him around the farm and taking him for tractor rides.

  2. Love those bright triangles (now there's a big surprise!) I may have to make one of these... Congrats on your oldest turning 55. My Mother is continually amazed she has four kids over 50. The youngest of us will turn 55 next year.

  4. As frequently happens, you have inspired me again with the grouping of triangles into larger triangles. I have been grappling with how to accomplish a design in my head and you've given me the answer!

My firstborn will be 50 this month. My dad used to "complain" that he had lost his own identity around town and had become known as "Brian's Grampa."

  6. Love the bright Marcia Derse fabrics. Much nicer than the greyed down ones I bought. Triangles look so sparkly.

  7. Love the triangles. It is a great way to use up some of those old scraps that I have saved. I am always trying to get rid of but ending up buying some other fabric to take its place. My son will be 56 this coming March. Where has all the time gone? Seems like he was just a babe in arms.

  8. Happy birthday! It's always startling to have a child be such a, well, old age. Our guild had a workshop with Mary Fons using her design concept "A Quilt Called Whisper." It used these same 60-degree triangles. At our guild meeting last night one member brought her version. The woman sitting next to me said that she got the rows assembled but that was it. (Same for me!) I like the Marcia Derse colors much more than the light-and-dark purple colorway that I chose. That's maybe why I'm stalled . . .

  14. Wonderful! I've been thinking of triangles like these, or equilateral triangles, for my Marcia Derse/Alison Glass combo. Nice to get your preview.

  15. I love the saturation of the layout and the possibilities are endless. When I made a triangle quilt I spent more time rearranging than I did sewing. Happy birthday to your son. Hopefully you won't take his aging as hard as my mom does although I'm the "baby" so that might amplify things too.

  16. Beautiful triangles! I've never made a triangle quilt but will be taking a class and making one at QuiltCon in a couple of weeks. I'm thinking of doing it in all reds and oranges. But haven't pulled the fabrics yet. It'll have to be all from my stash as I'm on a fabric diet! I'm really trying just to use my stash, before it outgrows my sewing room!

  17. I have a triangle die that I want to use at some time. I just haven't quite worked myself up to it yet. But you certainly are giving me a little push! I really like what you're doing here.

  18. Happy birthday to you. Did your Medallion quilt book come spiral bound or did you have it done that way?
