I finished this Stack and Slash quilt top on Saturday but wanted to show it to the art quilters before I put it on the blog. I love this Marcia Derse fabric. This is my subdued group of it so I will be making another quilt with the more intense colors soon.
I wanted to tell you how I am using your quilts in my classroom. I place one of your quilts on the Smartboard and my 4th graders identify the shapes and geometric examples that they see. Kudos to those students who find "hidden" shapes that come about when 2 or more pieces create another geometric shape whereupon they declare "Wandaful". I went to your Wandaful site for more examples. The vibrant colors are appealing and exciting. Your site is now part of my website links in class. I get to teach geometric shapes AND introduce students to my hobby. Some of the students (including boys) are learning to piece small projects during times when inclement weather prevents them from playing outdoors. The hand eye coordination and fine motor skill development improves handwriting and attention to detail. Thanks for being part of my classroom.
Heh, when I first read, "This is my subdued group," I thought you meant the group of art quilters! Then I read more carefully and realized it was the fabrics, of course.
Stunning! I love her fabric! I finished a queen sized top a couple weeks ago and really need more yardage of the black and white!!! Yikes!!! Anyhoo, your quilt is spectacular!

I really like this piece especially since the internal squares do not appear to be the same size although they are. It is the colors that give it that illusion and I like that a lot!
I can only get her fabric online. I bought some charm packs once from MSQC, but otherwise have to go by the photos online. I love the mark making she does on the fabric.
This quilt is so pleasing to my eye. Feels so comfortable. Old man winter is howling outside. Temps are low. Definitely would keep me warm as I cuddle on the couch. Oops, balloon popped. Back to my schedule. Love the colors and the quilt.
Love it! I've collected a big stack of Marcia Derse fabrics. I've used them in a couple of quilts mixed with solids, but I want to do another one this year. I'm thinking of mixing them with Alison Glass's Handcrafted line.
Could you show us how you make the cuts for the block? I've Marcia Derse in several quilts and have grown to appreciate her design sense. It wasn't love at first sight!
Love this! I have a small bundle of her fabrics, probably not enough to make a quilt without adding others, so I think I'll end up using them here and there with other fabrics. Actually, only in the last couple of years have I started making quilts using designer lines of fabric. Previously, I never purchased an entire line of fabric but rather put together my own palette from various fabrics. It's more of a challenge, but also more fun. And I have so many random fabrics I should and could be using, so why not? My question here is, what size fabric pieces did you start with in your Stack and Slash? They look large to me, almost fat quarter sized?
Really looks good. Nothing better to do than keep sewing while it is so cold out. Chris
ReplyDeleteLove this color combo with lots of gray!

ReplyDeleteEven your "subdued" quilts are exuberant!

Subdued ... LOL! Can't wait to see the rest of the collection. I'm not familiar with that designer.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great pattern. Could you tell us about it? Is it your own creation or does it have a name???
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to the "more intense" version

ReplyDeleteI was expecting something different when I read the title of the quilt, but it's gorgeous as always.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Love Marcia Derse fabric... her 'mark making' is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I finish this comment I will look up Marcia Derse! The new design is very attractive.
ReplyDeleteI have loved her fabrics since the first time I encountered them . . .
