8 blocks......

I decided to sew the last group of blocks, 2 each of these combinations and cut the last 2 strips after I have started playing with the blocks on the design wall.  Then I will know if it needs to be all red, all purple, or a mix.

I got a new book on free motion quilting, hoping for some inspiration.

It has a spiral binding inside the cover so you can flip pages and they lay flat.  It is one of the Stash books from C&T publishing.

When I was teaching beginning free motion quilting one of the questions in every class was "where do I start and how do I continue the design?".  Amanda has drawings that show the steps for each design.  That is really helpful no matter how many years a person has been doing free motion.

  2. Your blocks are coming along for the red and purple! I am not so sure about the direction free motion quilting has gone. By that I mean it seems there is a lot of over designing that takes away from the quilt design itself. It is like the quilting is competing with the quilt design instead of complementing it.

  3. I wish they made more quilting books with the spirals it sure does help if you can lay a book flat when you are trying to follow directions instead of having to lay things on the edges to hold it open! I had a couple of mine made that way but hate to pay extra for it as I do not have a place near by that will do it cheaply.

  4. Hi, I found a youtube video on machine quilting and it was suggested that to start you draw your design on ordinary paper and then "stitch" without thread. Once you are comfortable you can move onto fabric.
    All the best

  9. Looks like a great book, and yes, spiral bound is the best. I've even cut some of my bindings and done this if they are ones with patterns you need to trace. Best part of these books is that you probably know how to execute all the designs but it just puts them into a different perspective and brings back old designs that you already know!

  10. I was running some errands yesterday and realized I was channeling you when I noticed I was wearing purple gloved with my red sweatshirt! It looked great! And so do your blocks.
