Yesterday was the twice monthly sewing day. I took my machine and more of the Kaffe strip scraps and pieced 24 blocks. Last night I started trimming them.
I thought they were so pretty for the tote bag and wondered if a bunch of them would be too busy as a quilt.
I worked on the lining of the tote bag (see yesterday's post) both in the morning and after I got home from the sew in. I had forgotten how long it takes to make tote bags. The pocket for the water bottle is a little short for the tall bottle but would be perfect for the little 8 oz. size. I used my favorite Martha Negley fabric for the lining, tree rings. There is some of the same red/orange color in it.
This was a social week, 4 days in a row being with people. I think I'll be a hermit today.

Being a Hermit is ok. That way you can only question yourself. The blocks look really good together. Chris
The tote bag lining is great with all those specialty pockets. I like that fabric too! I think the quilt will be fantastic! More is better with all those different fabrics!
Love the inside of the tote bag- great pockets so everything doesn't all get mashed together. I also love the blocks. I think they look great together.
Totes do take a lot of time, I think because they are 3 dimensional and have sewing on many sides and edges. Everything has to fit in numerous ways which is time consuming.
I like the quilt layout, it's bright and colorful.
Love the colors Wanda. Have you heard of "fusible matte vinyl" which some folks are using to line tote bags? I gather it protects the inside from spills, but have yet to work with it.
Hermit days can be wonderfully productive.
The pockets of totes always take so much time, but are so worth it in the end. I think the strips would be great in a quilt.
I have found that a little bit of quiet time by myself is needed. Love being with friends and people, but is can overwhelm my system after a period of time!! Love your tote bag!!
Here's to hermit days - great name for alone time. Love those colorful blocks!!!
The lining is just right for the bag, and yes, they are way more trouble and time to make than most people realize. I need to make more and I am definitely dragging my heels.
Hermit days are great for regrouping and getting lots accomplished!
I love the look of those Kaffe blocks for a quilt - it would be wonderfully cheerful and colourful. Not too busy at all, at least not to me!
Very nice tote bag - love the colors. And it's soooo true that things that appear to be fairly simple and should be fast, take way more time than most people, esp. non-sewers, think they do.
As to the other blocks, I got a giggle that *you* wonder if they are too busy to be a a quilt. IMO these blocks are almost restrained compared to a couple other scrap quilts you've made. And I mean that in a good way! I think they'd make a wonderful quilt.
What pattern did you use for the tote? I like the lining of the tote with all the pockets. The wuilt is great. I love the colors.
