Cutting, cleaning and sewing......

It was twice monthly sewing day today so I took my GO Baby cutter and triangle die and cut a bunch of batik scraps.  The trimmings will go to the dog bed lady.

Last night I vacuumed the basement and finished sewing the sleeve at the bottom edge of the banner.  Since the width of the banner is about 69" I think 2 yardsticks overlapped and taped together might work as the rod at the bottom.  It only needs to be stiff, not necessarily heavy.  In fact since the banner is 90" tall we really don't want to add any weight to it.  It is really lightweight at this point because I used Thermore batting which is a lightweight low loft polyester.

  1. Suggest that you wrap the yardsticks in aluminum foil to prevent interaction of wood and cloth.
    Just a thought.

  2. Another use for yardsticks! I have several around the house because you never know when they might come in handy!

  3. Congrats on reaching this point with the banner. Will be wonderful to see it hanging in place!

  4. I like these processes you are using, the yardsticks along the bottom and the facings. I went back and read your earlier post on facings and yet, I still have a question. How do you handle the corners? Do you turn on the 45 like a binding, or do you face the top and bottom, and then the sides? You also mentioned in your earlier post that on one piece you bound the top edge and faced the other 3 sides, can you explain why that was your choice of methods? Just curious. I'm working on a piece right now that I think will benefit from a facing rather than a binding and everything I've been seeing in my regional shows look like they have been "pillow cased" to get this look. Your method is appealing to me. Thanks very much.

  5. The yardsticks are such a great idea. I'll have to remember that.
