Back to normal life........

I finished cutting the batik scraps into the little rectangles (finished 1.5" x 3") yesterday during my garage sale.  It was quite busy several times and I sold some of the bigger items as well as small things.  I am really pleased with the total.  I did a partial clean up so I could pull my van into the garage and started packing things to take to Goodwill.

Some of you questioned why I would do a garage sale.  I have lived in this small town almost 56 years and about a fourth of the people who came to the garage sale are acquaintances from the past and a lot of them I hadn't seen for a few years.   I realize if you don't know the people in your town, it might not be as much fun.

  1. I live in a complex that doesn't allow yard sales (they do not want traffic or strangers checking us out) so I am green with envy. I love a yard sale for reducing unwanted supplies, downsizing furnishings, meeting people (and even getting new ideas or inspiration for quilts). AND it produces some $$$$$ which becomes a little secret fund for new purchases, classes, etc. I miss having them.

  3. That is wonderful, a garage sale is a great way to dispose of items no longer needed and as another writer said make a little extra money for more fabric or classes or whatever your fancy. Good for you.

  4. The little rectangles are so cute! I keep thinking about getting that die, but not sure how to use it - other than one patch/rail fence style - how are you going to use it?? I already have the 2 x 4 finished one and its great for charity scrap quilts.

  6. I think I need to watch some videos about loading up the GO. I have found so many pieces not quite the size of the die, guess I load the fabric incorrectly. Glad your sale went so well.

  7. I envy your garage sale success! Now - can you come over and organize one for me? I have oodles of stuff and inventory still left from closing my fabric store. I just love it, when stuff that you have can be passed onto someone else for to be used.

Okay - but what about those cute little rectangles? Do you have a plan for them.....we are all waiting to see. Cheers and have a great day.

  9. I love having garage sales!!! The people are fun to talk to, and you get so much stuff out of your house!! It is just so much work. You need to take it easy for a couple days now. We went to a baseball game in KC last night. The temps were in the high 80's with very little winds. i can not imagine being in my garage yesterday, with those temps. You got a lot of cutting done between customers. Have a good STITCHING week!!

  10. That is one of the big advantages of living in a smaller place - knowing so many people. I'm so glad you had a good sale. What are you going to do with those pieces??? Inquiring minds want to know. ;)

  11. I really enjoy your blog. I, too, love color. I am new to quilting and love seeing the possibilities of creating without rulers or templates. Congratulations on your successful garage sale!
