Second finish for February...........

The blue batik 16 patch is finally finished.  I made a series of six 16 patch quilts between May and September in 2013.  This is the first one I made and the last one to be quilted.  It ended up 70" x 93" after quilting.

I originally thought I would put a darker blue backing on this quilt but as I looked through my backing fabrics this one just asked to be used.

All of the fabrics that appear pink have some blue in them and were included so the quilt wouldn't be "too blue".  I have a problem with staying on a theme and want to include SO many fabrics.  There are 108 blocks, each with 2 fabrics.  Most combinations were used twice so there are at least 100 different fabrics in the quilt.
Now for the indoor garden.  Both orange cacti are blooming.

The white with pale pink has one bloom and a few more buds.

The red one has been blooming for about a month and I think this might be the last bloom.

I love how your beautiful expressions of color in your quilts are so often followed by the beautiful colors in your garden :) I never got a thing to grow outside in Texas, but now that we have moved to Washington, things are much better. I have three whole house plants that have managed to stay alive and a passel of flowers in the yard, Yay! And thank you about the tips of why and how you choose colors. I really appreciate it!

Love this 16 patch. Every time you post something I have to add another project to my "to do" list. Great inspiration. I also am impressed that you consistently give credit to fabric inspirations and to designers who have influenced you. I would compare it to a bibliography/footnotes for a writer.

I just love all the finishes you are doing this year - it must feel good to get through some of these and clear out space for new projects. Love your Xmas cactus. I'm surprised that the one I brought home from my mother's has survived so far, I really thought it would die, it didn't produce flowers this winter and I wasn't surprised because it was almost dead when I brought it home, maybe next winter?

You are far better at maintaining a theme than I am. I love this 16 patch. I love the variety of fabrics you used in this.

Lovely 16 patch and lovely cactus :) mine is just putting out some buds, but it's cold in my kitchen.

I'm loving these mostly blue quilts appearing lately. If I'm feeling "blue" this is how I want to feel.

"Too" on-theme becomes boring. Congrats on the finish and thank you for sharing the flowers . . .

Another BLUE finish ~ even prettier enlarged. Such an awesome array of blue fabric's. Lovely blossoms to see on a cold wintery day... your temps are still colder than ours.

I think the warm colors are what makes this sparkle!

I really like this one. There is something so satisfying about quilts made with lots of little squares. I don't know why, it just is, to me at least.
Your cactus plants looks so happy. You must have a really bright window for them.

I love this pretty much monochromatic quilt. I'm sure you've said it before, but how big (or small) are the individual squares?
