I finally decided this top wasn't going to finish itself so I got the borders done last night. First I added the strips to the 2 sides so the color wasn't touching the edge of the quilt. then I added the 3 rows of strips to the top and bottom. I wanted just a touch of color in the first 2 strips with the outside one being just the light neutrals. Now it is about 76" x 95". In the book it didn't have any borders. I wanted it to be more rectangular so it could be used on a twin bed.
I think these two fabrics will be on the back. I'll probably divide both pieces into 2 different width strips and sew them together alternating. Then I don't have to worry about getting anything centered when I quilt it.
I really like this one.
ReplyDeleteI especially like those little glints of color in the border -- they are just right!

You are staying focused and getting something done. I like the color splashes in the borders. Gives definition to the outer edge. Chris
ReplyDeletevery nice. I'm starting to think I "need" that book!
ReplyDeleteThe color is a nice spark ... in the borders! Hum... now to quilt it... any plans for that yet?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to add the top and bottom pieces, looks terrific. The colors are stunning. The size seems great for the graphic nature of this quilt.
ReplyDeleteThat quilt is beautiful! I love it.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. The pops of color in the border are a very nice touch.
ReplyDeleteAnother great quilt from your studio. Love the backing prints, I just used very graphic black/white/reds for a backing and did 4 or 5 big strips.
ReplyDeleteI love your use of black and with with bright color. ... thanks for showing the backings too! -- Christine
ReplyDeleteI love the border work - it looks perfect with this quilt. I always wonder why so many quilt patterns are made too small for beds - do more quilters make lap quilts than bed quilts I wonder. I really do not use lap quilts all that much and when I make one that is too small for a bed it normally sits on the edge of the couch never to be used that it ends up being given away or sold.
ReplyDeleteAnother pretty quilt. It must be nice to alternate between many projects….keeps one excited to get to the sewing room. I usually finish one quilt before starting another but do have other sewing projects to play around with during that quilt project. Oh, come to think of it….I do have some BOM in process!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love how it finished up.
ReplyDeleteLove this quilt!
ReplyDeleteLove what you did with the border. Love, love, love this quilt top.
ReplyDeleteisn't it funny how we have to push ourselves to finish beautiful things, sometimes?
ReplyDeleteI like that a lot!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is a 'show stopper' Wanda. Your finish on this one is perfect. I too love the touches of color you added in the border. Great pieces for the back also.

You've really made a gorgeous piece here; the colors sing to me. The borders are inspired and the binding pulls it all together in fine form.
ReplyDeleteAny time I am having an off day, I just come to your blog and scroll through your beautiful quilts. Immediate day-brightener.
ReplyDeleteLooking wonderful - I'm another one who will be purchasing this book!
ReplyDeleteWow, I love this one. And the fabric you have chosen for the backing will work well.
ReplyDeleteAn inspired idea adding those pops of colour in the binding - beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI really like that pattern, and you've improved it. The fabric you've chosen looks perfect for the backing, too.
ReplyDeleteHi!!!! It is very beautiful!!!! I love the backing to!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour borders are amazing! What a brilliant idea to put just those tiny spots of color in the top and bottom borders! It's just perfect, and just the kind of thing I can never think of, because it's outside the box! The minute I see it, I know it's perfect, but it never would've occurred to me to do it!
ReplyDeleteI like those borders and backing. I like that the color is not touching the outside.
ReplyDeleteLove the black and white fabrics for the back especially the one on the left. I never got my hands on some of that.
ReplyDeleteI just love this quilt! I saw it on someone else's blog who saw it on your blog first. She was doing it for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, so I thought I might try it too. A fun quilt!
