I finally decided this top wasn't going to finish itself so I got the borders done last night. First I added the strips to the 2 sides so the color wasn't touching the edge of the quilt. then I added the 3 rows of strips to the top and bottom. I wanted just a touch of color in the first 2 strips with the outside one being just the light neutrals. Now it is about 76" x 95". In the book it didn't have any borders. I wanted it to be more rectangular so it could be used on a twin bed.
I think these two fabrics will be on the back. I'll probably divide both pieces into 2 different width strips and sew them together alternating. Then I don't have to worry about getting anything centered when I quilt it.
I love the border work - it looks perfect with this quilt. I always wonder why so many quilt patterns are made too small for beds - do more quilters make lap quilts than bed quilts I wonder. I really do not use lap quilts all that much and when I make one that is too small for a bed it normally sits on the edge of the couch never to be used that it ends up being given away or sold.
Another pretty quilt. It must be nice to alternate between many projects….keeps one excited to get to the sewing room. I usually finish one quilt before starting another but do have other sewing projects to play around with during that quilt project. Oh, come to think of it….I do have some BOM in process!! :)
This quilt is a 'show stopper' Wanda. Your finish on this one is perfect. I too love the touches of color you added in the border. Great pieces for the back also.
Your borders are amazing! What a brilliant idea to put just those tiny spots of color in the top and bottom borders! It's just perfect, and just the kind of thing I can never think of, because it's outside the box! The minute I see it, I know it's perfect, but it never would've occurred to me to do it!
I just love this quilt! I saw it on someone else's blog who saw it on your blog first. She was doing it for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, so I thought I might try it too. A fun quilt!

ReplyDeleteAnother great quilt from your studio. Love the backing prints, I just used very graphic black/white/reds for a backing and did 4 or 5 big strips.
