I found time to sew in the morning yesterday and made 5 new blocks.
I cut some more floral fabrics and sewed 6 new blocks in the afternoon.
All 39 blocks are up on the wall, not in any particular order, just up there so I can view them and decide what combinations to sew next. I have almost 2/3 of the blocks done that I will need. I am contemplating pulling out the lightest value blocks and making this quilt darker. That means I would probably sew the duplicate blocks that I have in a pile waiting to be completed.
Love your floral blocks! Isn't it amazing how sewing can lift our spirits and keep us sane? Hope your Dad is feeling better.
ReplyDeleteYour right about saving our sanity....stitching does
ReplyDeletethe same for me. Glad to hear you Dad is out of the
hospital and back in his residence. Hope that he
improves daily.
The red/green and lavender/green combo blocks really add some zing to this. I am liking it more each time you add to it.
ReplyDeleteI too love the floral blocks. Most of the time I too have a project waiting for me by my machine. I can't stand to just sit, if that makes sense. If I am not at my sewing machine, I am embrodiering something or knitting or crocheting. Now I picked up items to learn "locker hooking" which I have never tried before. Sorry to hear about your Dad but glad he is now back at the home. Hopefully he will be back to what he was soon.
ReplyDeleteLooking good....sewing is my sanity saver too. A little fix every day keeps me going.
ReplyDeleteI think you are right in thinking you need to replace some of the lighter blocks. Looking good.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that your Dad is settling into a new home!
ReplyDeleteThese blocks are gorgeous, and so easy! It's nice to have something simple to turn to when life hands you some challenges. Hope your dad is better soon. Sounds like you turn to stitching to maintain your sanity - I think that's what many quilters do!
ReplyDeleteStill gorgeous. Hope things get a little easier with your dad's care. Hope you have time for a little quilting stress relief.
ReplyDeletehope your dad is feeling much better and that the staff at the new home will be taking care of him well.
ReplyDeleteI totally get the whole sanity thing. Best wishes with your dad, Wanda.
ReplyDeleteSo good to have something like quilting in times like this. Years ago, both parents were sick - and at the same time, I was in charge of creating a group quilt as a gift for someone from my church. That project was my salvation! Something normal to do, where the pieces fit together and you get that satisfaction and it's pretty. Remember to take care of yourself too Wanda. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the top picture. It makes me think the quilt would be beautiful if stitched in the ditch so each square would pop. I'm so sorry your dad and you have to go through this. The feeling of helplessness is so hard to bear.
ReplyDeleteI thought the batiks were great, but the florals add a whole new dimension.
ReplyDeleteHope your dad does well at the new residence. Sewing is a must for my mental health--have to do it!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your dad is out of the hospital and hope he settles into his new residence easily.
ReplyDeleteStitching has always been my therapy - when something is stressful, stitching helps keep the stress level manageable.
The news about your dad is encouraging, but I know it has taken a toll on you. I'm glad that sewing has been there for you.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see what it would look like without the light - a side by side comparison!
The green and floral blocks are just beautiful! I need to get back to the sewing machine myself. I ended up cleaning up the garage and mowing after work yesterday so another day with no sewing. Today I have to make another trip over to my brother's house (I pick up his mail and make sure everything is ok) as he and his wife are coming for a few days. I need to turn the A/C on, and strip the bed, wash the sheets, and then go back and make the bed up before they show up late tomorrow night. I think I will find some towels and wash them too since they have been sitting unused for a year. He is a good guy and I have gotten to see a lot of great concerts free because of his job so you won't hear any complaints from me.
ReplyDeleteGlad you dad is doing better. I hope he is going to be well cared for in his new place.
The sound of my machine soothes my soul, even on the worst of days . . . blessings to those who are caring for your dad in his new setting and hugs to you!!
ReplyDeleteLoving the floral blocks--they look different than the batik blocks--but still the same sewing technique. It always helps to have something ready to sew up when you get a chance. Glad your dad is out of the hospital. Hope he is doing well. Take care!!
ReplyDeleteThe new blocks add vibrance you always have in your designs. These really sparkle. I agree, pull out your lightest blocks for another piece.
ReplyDeleteDo hope the new residence gives your Dad the peace and care he needs now.

I am so right there with you. These days it seems like it is one thing right after another. If it weren't for sewing therapy I don't want to think about how it would be!
ReplyDeleteI love how vibrant your quilt is turning out! A happy quilt for sure!
ReplyDeleteI only see one that looks too light! Hope your Dad does well in teh new home!
ReplyDeletesuch beautiful blocks!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your father Wanda. I hope he is doing better. Wishing you lots of time to sew soon!
