I did the ditch quilting on Wonky 3 (must come up with a better name) yesterday. That is all it needs so a decision on trimming the edges is next. If I trim the edges straight I can use straight of grain binding. If I leave it crooked I'll have to use bias binding. I'm going out socializing this morning so I won't make the decision until afternoon. This is number 3 of the 6 that I need done by the 22nd. I need to start getting the bindings sewn on so I don't have all 6 to do at once.
The wavy edges would make an element of interest. The issue then is will it hang flat. I find I can't get curved or wavy edges to drape nicely. Hope you can solve the problem. Have fun on your outing. Chris
ReplyDeleteHow about a name like skewed? Looking good.
ReplyDeleteI like facings on wavy edges. Having said that, I much prefer to add bindings than facings :).
ReplyDeleteBTW, I wrote to you a while back asking about your studio cutter. I finally got mine for Christmas and I love it! Thanks for your help.

Hate to say it, but I like the crazy wavy edge....such a part of the design that I would not want to lose it. So it is bias or facing to keep them.
ReplyDeletehave fun and think about it later. This is another pretty one!
ReplyDeleteI like the irregular shape too, but Sewing Junkie is right, it may cause issues hanging.
ReplyDeleteso what if it hangs wonky? wonky is wonky! I love it!
ReplyDeleteHave fun. Every gal needs a bit of a break from quilting.
ReplyDeleteI would keep the wavy edge as it adds the visual interest. Bias binding would be my vote:) It will be interesting to see what you decide!

It looks like a wonderful, Magic Carpet flying in the clouds or laying on white sand. The one that belonged to Jasmine and Aladdin. If you feel it needs to be a rectangle quilt to hang properly, I suppose you could sew on a border and cut the boarder's edges straight, emphasize the movement created by the wonky strips. Just some thoughts. It's a beautiful piece of art and I LOVE it! Makes me smile, inspires dreams.
ReplyDeleteLove this wandering path look. It has that relaxed, inviting look. Enjoy your morning.
ReplyDeleteI love the wonky look and would go for a bias binding and keep the wonky look for sure!
ReplyDeleteI am not going to add my "2 cents" because you always know best how to finish your designs.
ReplyDeleteA very pretty piece and Elaine M commented "wandering path" look. Now I do like that for a different name.

I love this quilt! Either straight or curvy edges would look great. But I think curvy edges could add a special touch.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it should be wavy.
ReplyDeleteFor what it's worth I think you should leave then wonky. But then, I'm not the one who's going to be cutting a lot of bias binding :) Great quilt! I love the colors.
ReplyDeleteI love this piece. Straightening the edges or leaving them wonky will both work. Think I would straighten the edges to add a new dimension to its wonkiness; which I love.
ReplyDeleteI'd add a wider outer border--same fabric on all four sides--the effect would be like a frame around an irregularly-shaped design (in this case, the center of the quilt).
ReplyDeleteWhichever way you choose will be the way you want it...Good looking design..
ReplyDeleteI think it would be sad to straighten up the edges on that beautiful thing.
ReplyDeleteThought I'd let you know, I made a small quilt using the colorwash kit I got from you; it's posted at my blog today. Thanks for the inspiration. I have a ways to go, but it was fun.
Can't wait to see what you come up with, Wanda.
