Gift............

My gift from my son's family came in 3 parts and was a techy one.  The first was an HDMI cable, the second a certificate for one full year of unlimited Netflix streaming, and the third this streaming player so I don't have to have a computer next to my TV.  This is something I thought I would like but would never have done it for myself.  Now I can catch some of the TV series that I missed because I have no way of recording now that Comcast has us all hooked up to digital boxes.  I was able to get this all hooked up and working by myself.  I think that makes me a geek.......

  2. That's the best kind of gift--something we like but would not have gotten for ourselves. And being a geek is obviously a good thing, 'cause now you're hooked up and ready to watch! Way to go!

  3. Definitely a geek, Wanda! What a wonderful gift. Now you'll have a lot of chance to relax and sew on bindings! :) Happy holidays.

  4. We got a Roku Box a couple months ago. We can get Netflix and several other channels. When nothing is on TV it is a nice added feature to have this. Hope you enjoy it. As far as a geek well depends on the way you interpret it. You are talented so if that makes you a "GeeK" so be it. Chris

  5. What a great gift! I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have figured out how to hook it up. Good for you.

    Merry Christmas!

  6. By yourself? For sure the title of geek for you. I would have probably made nothing but a huge wad of wire mess if I had tried by myself.
    Congrats on the great gift.

  9. I love "geeky" gifts like that. I have Netflix streaming as my main source of TV. I don't have cable or satellite and an antenna is pretty useless where I live.
I really enjoy picking what I want to watch when I want to watch it.
    Enjoy your geeky/techy presents.

  10. You've inspired me tremendously with your quilting, and now a new facet of your being: a tech geek. If you can do these things, so can I!

    I enjoy reading your blog.

  12. O Wanda, I love my streaming Netflix too. I just moved my tv out of the living room and into the studio thus necessitating a new dvd-streaming wifi device. I too hooked it up myself.
I can recommend a load of great series, especially British, and films to watch while sewing or knitting. Or just watching!
Merry Christmas and Happy New year,
    Love Melody

  14. I asked for (and got) Netflix for Christmas. Hubby fixed it so I can watch it from my studio in addition to our family room. We are now hooked on Prison Break - you might like it, too. Merry Christmas!

  17. Great gift! All we ever watch is Netflix-hooked on the British mysteries!

  18. You will LOVE this! I have it hooked up in my sewing room and have truly enjoyed it. There's nothing like a British mystery when you are stitching away!

  20. What a wonderful gift! Hooking it up for sure makes you a major geek, Wanda, I couldn't have done it. We are on Comcast, too, and could no longer record until we bought a new kind of recorder. I think it might be called a DVR? Now we (Rick) can record on it at the same time we're watching something that he recorded previously. Our Christmas gift to ourselves.
Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.

  22. I think it makes you AMAZING! I am so intimidated by all of that kind of stuff, and lag so far behind that I don't even know where to start. By the time I try to learn about one of the new conveniences, it's already old! You give me hope. Enjoy! And Merry Christmas!

  23. Nice! I want one, too! It would be more fun to watch on the TV where we have comfy chairs instead of at my computer where I have one hard chair.

  24. I am so impressed! I am so ignorant about techy stuff that I don't know what you are talking about but it sounds like fun. You go girl!
Blessings to you and Merry Christmas,

  25. Yes... I think that does make you a 'Techy Geek' for sure. I wouldn't know how to program it yet alone get it to communicate with the TV. YOU are super multi talented and can do everything ! It sure sounds like a unit that I would like. We too have missed a few shows that come on at the same time as other favorites and it would be nice to be able to see them when there is nothing else on to watch. BTW I didn't know there was a unit out there that was able to do all of this.

  34. My kiss always ask what I want for gift giving occasions and I have saved you post to give them an idea for the next time they ask. Great gift (I'll probably have to ask someone else to hook it up though)

  35. Oh, I'm so glad you'll get to watch Netflix while sewing (and that you hooked it up yourself).
