I went through all of my yardage of kids/I Spy prints and pulled a group to possibly make kits to sell. You know the drill....you have to buy at least 1/4 yard and that is about 6 times as much as you need for your quilt. I have 60 prints on the pile on the left that would do pretty well as a random cut. The stack on the right has the motifs spaced farther apart and would need to have the motifs centered on the chosen shape for your quilt. If I cut 6.5" squares so the buyer will have a large enough piece to cut out their hexagon or square or whatever shape easily, then I will only have 6 kits because at least half of the pieces in the pile are 1/4 yard cuts. If I cut 5" squares I could have 8 kits to sell. Decisions, decisions.............
Yesterday a freecycler was coming for some peony roots so I went out between rain showers and dug a few, and also some goldenrod and lily of the valley that were in a place that I don't want them. When she got here she helped dig a few more and she took the goldenrod too. She had moved to a new place that has no plants, just bushes. I also gave her a few hostas that I had given up trying to find a place for.
It was in the 50s most of the day so I finally gave in and turned on the heat since the next 2 days are going to be cold too. My gas bills for May - Sept. are down $149 from last year. I think the actual price for gas is down a little this year but a lot of that savings is from not having the old fashioned pilot light flaming away all summer. The new boiler has an electronic pilot. I'm looking forward to more savings all winter and I won't have to be shivering any more while wearing at least 3 layers.

Question: Is the difference in price of selling 6.5 vs 5 going to make up for the time cutting? That would be my question to myself over your dilemma. Cool one out there this morning. We are to get frost again. This will be the second time. Chris
So what do you do when you can't sleep and it's still only 3 am? Come over to Wanda's and window shop in her exhuberant stash and read all about her comings and goings.
I always feel like I've sat down with a cup of coffee and now..finally, I see a photo of you really feel like I know you! You are lovely and have the best smile! No wonder everyone loves you!
So, even earlier, the bug man is on with his infomercial book. Spiders in the house spray coconut milk and white vinegar in the corners..they'll keep away. Outside, the garden needs them as do kids who love buggy things;) I Spy a lot of fun going on! I could just crash in your stash and admire your loot any time!
I don't know if kids would like that fabric - I guess it depends on the kid. I don't but that's just me!
I have squares cut for an I Spy quilt, I bought enough for a single bed quilt for $35 which seemed to me, as an inexperienced quilter with no stash at all, like a good deal. One day I should get it up on my design wall -- at two and a half years, Older Grandson is ready for one!
Ive never made an I Spy quilt, but I could be tempted. Don't know about the creepy crawlies.
I don't mind the bugs. Maybe a boy would like them. Perhaps they're a bit realistic.
It's good you were able to get your gas bill down and you'll be warmer.
I should be digging out a few of my hosts too. I've nowhere to put them but it's too crowded where they are.
Once you decide what size, I would be interested in buying one of your stacks.
I am also interested in buying a kit/stack whatever it is you decide to sell. I am sure it will be very interesting fabric. Please, put my name on your list!
And, I think certain kids would love the bug fabric.
Thanks Wanda.
Judy
I would also be very interested depending on the price.
Oh, Wanda, please save me a kit or two from the pile on the right. You know I've been looking for these prints. As far as the bugs go, kids are so different it would be hard to guess.
I'm glad to see you are finding you have savings already from your new boiler! that is great. I wonder if we will have an extra cold winter this years after such a mild one last year. That is nice that you were able to pass some plants on to others.
Love the bugs!
You wouldn't think a pilot light would use so much, over a year that is almost $500/50 yards of fabric!
My 6 yearold budding entomologist would love the bug fabric!
The kits look like fun.
Great gas savings.!
I'd go ahead and include the bugs in your I-Spy kits (unless you're saving it for your own special project. Can you imagine?)
My granddaughter would love the bugs (ugh for me tho')--she has Venus Flytraps in an old aquarium in her bedroom even! Yikes!! Julierose
Definitely add the bugs and beetles to your kits. So many kids today are glued to their hand held 'thingy's' and don't get out side to even know what a bug is.
Lucky lady to have a friend that shares her plants. Fall is a great time to get those plants in the ground.
I had not been checking your weather lately and am surprised at your cool temps.

Please include me in your list--I'd be interested too, depending on the prices. I think it's better to be comfortable and warm, than shiver and catch a cold. I'm going to have to switch ours on soon, but the days are still so warm we may have another week or two yet.
a little off your post, but I think cutting my irregular scraps into 6 1/2 squares would be easier to save
Kids? My mother would running screaming from that bug print. I like it though. Karmen
I'd add the bugs to the kits. The kits do sound like fun.
We gave in and turned the heat on earlier this week. The evenings are just getting too cool and now the days are getting colder and colder.
Put me on the list. And I LOVE the bugs! Snake, frogs, lizards, too.

Love the beetle fabric! Does it also come in color? I don't think that it puts the kids off, they are rather curious than phobic, this seems to be an adults' privilege.
