Call me a wimp if you like, but this heat is getting to me. 98 degrees yesterday, 90 today, 100 tomorrow. We get a few hours reprieve and then right back into the furnace. My plants in pots have spent as much time in the garage as out front because they would never survive being baked for hours every single day. I was simply wiped out by the time I got home from church sewing circle. Of course it didn't help that I got a headache on the other side of my head yesterday (left side Sat., right side Mon.). I sewed a few more triangle squares last night just so I could hear the hum of the machine. Enough whining, I have to be productive today for my sanity if nothing else.
I know what you mean. I only did some hand sewing yesterday because the fan on our air conditioner broke down and it was 100F inside my house. The guy came and fixed it, but it still took the rest of the day to cool down to 80F. My plants are fried too
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed you could do even that in that heat! I can't handle it. We've had a lot of temps in the 80 's and 90's here and very humid. I have trouble getting anything done.
ReplyDeleteNo, of course you are not a wimp. We had a spell of the 90-100 days that went on for more than two weeks. It was exhausting. We then had a couple of good days but yesterday was awful again. I don't even listen to the forecast anymore.
ReplyDeleteYesterday was 100*F outside and the heat index was way out there. Nothing wrong with wanting to stay in and not go out. Chris
ReplyDeleteIf you are a wimp then I am too When I left work yesterday, the thermometer in my car read 107! I went by mom's and stayed a bit. Then when I left it was still 100. (parked in the shade!) I just couldn't get motivated to do much. I finally did some cutting with my AccuQuilt Go just before bed.
ReplyDeletethe heat is really bothering me this year too Wanda, we have been 95 to 107 since sometime in May. I normally I'm out on my porch off and on all day and now I can't stand to be outside past 10 or 11 in the morning. I go run errands and I am walking so slow compared to normal. All we can do is wait this summer out and hope next year will be nothing like this one.
ReplyDeleteKaren
Hi, Wanda. I sympathize. But 90 is almost cool where I am. Like in the HOT countries, the trick is to work early in the morning and at night...and sleep through the day! Well, I've been hand stitching in front of the AC...only my fingers move! Stay cool!
ReplyDeletebest, nadia
. . . and I see that you're still working on KF HST's! I have my own KF project cooking, and the scraps are being turned into a HST scrappy quilt! It's hard not to feel better with all the color in the sewing room anyway -
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling better -
I just LOVE your current favourites
ReplyDeleteAt last we've had a thunder storm with a steady rain in our area (near you Wanda). With any luck the humidity will sky rocket when the heat returns and I can leave town knowing I'm going to a cooler place.... a teaching trip to the Baltic! Wish I could bring you with!
ReplyDeleteI am a wimp too! Thank goodness I spend all day in the A/C at work and then go home to the full house A/C. I went thru the dought summer of 1988 without A/C and I told my husband at the time "I have worked too hard to live this way. We are getting A/C!!!" This was at a different house than I live in now, but I feel the same - I will not live without A/C. My flower beds are fried, the weeds are taking over, and I have not had to mow for six weeks. Once the heat breaks and we get some rain I will dedicated myself to cleaning up the front yard and flower beds, but until then the south facing front yard will just have to look awful.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for all of you that are suffering through this current heat wave. We have been very lucky here in So Cal this year as we've had very few days in the 90s. The older I grow, the less tolerant I am of heat...and I was born/grew up in Las Vegas! I used to love the hot summers. What a dope! :)
ReplyDeleteDon't feel bad. It was 104 here in Central California yesterday. Pollen index must have been off the charts because I had a sinus headache at 3am. No quilting that day.
ReplyDeleteOh, the heat. One of the reasons why I moved my quilting central down into the basement. Just to survive. I hope it gets better for you soon.
ReplyDeleteThat is brutal heat and I don't blame you one bit for complaining about it. I can't imagine living with it, so you have my sympathy and admiration at the same time. I hope it breaks soon. I think I just stupidly wrote you a message and asked if the temps had gone down or not. Ignore my faux pas, please. You're in my thoughts; hope you have fans everywhere imaginable.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how you have lasted this long in that constant heat of yours. I get 'testy' with a day or two of it. And we do not have any humidity either.
ReplyDeleteHang in there... you will probably have a hum-dinger of a winter ahead... That wasn't nice to say was it ?

Believe me, I know exactly what you mean. Air conditioning is your friend, and if you're wise - you'll spend a lot of time with that friend! Even getting out in the heat for a little while can really make your head ache. Or at least it does it to me. Hope you get a break in your weather soon. I see on your sidebar that the heat index is high, too. That makes it worse. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteOh,Wanda, you've got a lot of company. It was 107 at my house and STILL 94 degrees at 9:00 pm. Crank up the AC and get yourself a cold one! I hope you feel better soon. mdmontalv@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteYou are not a wimp! We're having the same weather here and it's been weeks since I've been productive!
ReplyDeleteYou are getting WAY more done than most of us in this heat. It was 106 yesterday, and supposed to be the same today. I think I'm giving up on my potted plants. No point in replanting them, either, because the new ones will just fry, too.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your headaches. The heat can't be helping. Take care, and try to stay cool. (HA!)
I hope you are feeling better today! You are not a wimp. We have been getting the same heat as you, just a day or two later & I haven't had the energy to do much of anything. My part of Canada is not supposed to be this hot!
ReplyDeleteI am sick of this heat also. Thank God that we have air conditioning now. I am looking forward to fall this year. I enjoyed a lunch with my friend Gloria who is also a quilter and now into working with wool. It is always great to have a friend with similar interests. Hope your headache is gone.
ReplyDeleteThe heat this summer has been wearing out everyone! Tuesday here was heavenly - a perfect summer day that was warm, but not too hot and not humid, with a glorious breeze.
ReplyDeleteI would trade a few of the rainy days we have over here.
ReplyDeletelooking forward to some sunny days.
