I came home from the final day of Quilter's Heart sale with some thread, 70% off. I don't usually buy Gutermann thread and they have some really nice weird colors that I don't have in my collection. It seems I'm always needing a color a little lighter or darker than what I have on hand so I hope now I have what I need in every situation.
Since I grew up in the era of Roy Rogers and Gene Autry, I have always had a soft spot for cowboy print fabrics. There were 2 yards left on the bolt so it came home with me too.
I really enjoyed all of the comments yesterday and it looks like we have a lot of quilters ready to use their stash. Of course it will create more scraps but I no longer will feel guilty if I don't use them. From now I on I will be sorting them in 3 size groups in the bins that I emptied when I put my fabric out on the shelf units in my basement. Several people already spoke up to purchase my scraps too. This doesn't mean I won't make any scrap quilts, they will just be selected scraps and the rest will go.

I can see you using those colors with the fabrics you have. My problem is I never have enough of the colors to finish something. Sad that another quilt shop has closed. Chris
Somehow I missed your post yesterday about the scraps. I guess I didn't look at any of the blogs I usually follow as I drink my morning coffee. I was busy all day as,I have been since January 1, sorting through my scraps. A lot more would have wound up in the trash if I had read your post in the morning. Thanks for your insight.
Way back in the early 60s my mother made my brother curtains out of fabric very similar to that, brings back memories. I am sorting through my scraps too. I really haven't found a good way to organize them. I am cutting squares but what in the world to do with them.
You have a nice assortment of threads, I'm glad you were able to get enough to fill in the empty spots. It's really sad so many quilt shops are having to close, but I think more and more people are buying their fabrics online now... I find it easier to sit at my pc in my jammies and click. But then there are times when I want to look at and feel the fabric, up close and personal.
I'll be looking for your scrap bags, I think your fabric ROCKS!
Today's secret word is "exoeb" - I have to admit that one defeats me!
What sizes will you be sorting/saving?
Jeanne
Happy Sunday, Wanda ... I, too, will be watching to see how you move forward with this scrap-sorting process.
Gene A and Roy R were my favorites too. I had my little Dale Evans cowgirl skirt and vest so my brother and I could pretend to fight the bad guys and rescue people in style.
I've been battling my bags and boxes and stacks of scraps for the past week. Some days it seems endless. I like your plan (previous post) to concentrate on yardage, not the scraps. As much as I like scrappy projects, the time I put into prep for them, pressing, trimming, sorting--is taking so much of my time.
Nice to have a good stash of thread.
C'boy print sure is reminiscent of our day.

I love Gutermann thread and use it all the time. I prefer the large reels especially if using it for hand quilting or hand sewing as it kinks less( because of the reel size. )
I recently gave away a bag of scraps to a new quilting friend- She was very appreciative and the bag didn't hardly make a dint in all the scraps that I have upstairs in my sewing room. I appreciated your comment about cutting into the yardage- it makes such good sense - I have so much beautiful yardage that I have bought the last few years. Time to start using it more... As for your scrapbags- they will have some gorgeous fabrics in them - you have such a great eye for color - how can they not be beautiful!
I finally have managed to buy some neutrals to go with my love of color so its time to quilt...LOL
Have a wonderful day playing with your new threads. It is too bad that your local quilt store is closing.
Regards,
Anna
Gutermann is the most common (decent) thread here in my neck of the woods! I have never seen Aurifil "in the spool" and the only other brand my LYS sells is Mettler. Consequently, I use Gutermann for everything!
70% off thread!...i would have done the same thing you did...snagged up every color under the rainbow, sew fun!
Wow, what a thread bonanza. Lucky you. I want you to know that I have Roy Rodgers and Dale Evans Christmas pillowcases on my pillows right now. I love them. I guess I should take them off and put the Valentines pillowcases on, but I think I will wait until the beginning of February for the hearts.
I love Gutermann thread...what a great deal you got! blessings, marlene
What brand of sewing thread do you usually use? I am not a huge fan of Gutermann either, but I bought a bunch also that was an excellent price.
I am ready to buy more fabric to make more scraps. I have depleated many scrap pieces of fabric and am now ready to do some buying again. Is the shop where you sale was this weekend going out of business? I would hate to see another shop go down.
I have been looking for that exact cowboy fabric for about five years...I have a tiny square in my stash and couldn't find the name of it to save my life. Can you tell me anything about it? I'm dying to get more but can't search effectively without the name.
Thanks!!
