We were pretty busy for the last day of business at the quilt shop so the time went fast. I worked on some more blocks when I got home. I decided on a diagonal layout of the sizes of center squares. I need to cut some more light strips to go with the largest squares for 3 more blocks. I also need dark strips for one medium size center block. When I cut all of it Friday I was just cutting random sizes from all of the fabrics. I figured I might need to special cut the last ones. After I piece them I need to rearrange it a little so there aren't so many alike in the same area. I think I will put a 2" orange border on first and then one of the black or white fabrics.
Today I will finish straightening the basement and bake the second batch of cookies for the art quilters who are coming tomorrow.
I really like your orange, black, and white. With these chiily days it will be great to snuggle under when you're done.
ReplyDeleteI never would have thought to arrange the design by size on the diagonal. I like the look. Sounds like you have another busy day ahead.
ReplyDeleteI love that diagonal layout. I usually plan something like that but using a numeric system, and then I find it doesn't quite work. LOL. Maybe I will remember this diagonal method!
ReplyDeleteI really like this quilt. It's fun to watch your process.
ReplyDeleteinteresting colors in this one, it sounds like you are busy baking today, I need to make a batch or two of Xmas cookies to start putting in the freezer to have on hand.

Once again you are an inspiration for me! It's comforting to know someone as artistic as you are, also has some order in her layout. Sometimes I think I'm too logical; that is to say, I struggle to work randomly. I often arrange on the diagonal; for me it might be a control issue! LOL
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! LOVE the stripes--really cool effect!
ReplyDeleteColor and square size arranged on the diagonal. I really like the layout of this quilt. And the colors.
ReplyDeleteOrange, black and white are my old high school colors, too. West Wilkes Black Hawks.
Hmmm. On the diagonal? Good idea. I'll have to remember that.
ReplyDeleteGreat color combination: one of my favorites. And....cookies and art (and of course your stash): wish I was in the neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I like how the vaiation on the size of the center squares gives it depth and makes it so much more interesting,
ReplyDeleteNice variation from block to block. At first glance, it wasn't obvious that you're using a diagonal layout, but the variety of blocks helped disguise that. Not too planned, not too predictable. Lovely.
