Pretty bird.......

A spot of color caught my eye as I walked through the kitchen and glanced out at the back yard.
I think it is an Indigo Bunting.

  5. Beautiful Bird. We have bluebirds nesting in the back yard right now. The male's color is almost as vibrant.

  6. Oh my! We had a single one of this very same bird stop by our feeder last evening while we were eating dinner. We searched and searched our bird book and came to the very same conclusion - an Indigo Bunting!

GORGEOUS flash of color he provided!

  10. I rarely ever see bluebirds here in Arkansas - now that the cats seem to have deserted us once again I might start to see more birds (and squirrels) in the yard again.

  12. Gorgeous bird - love that bright blue color. This week we had a new bird visitor to our southern Arizona feeders which I think was a Lazuli Bunting. Not as flashy as yours, but quite pretty too.

  22. What a beautiful bird! You must always have your camera at the ready - a really good idea, actually. I'll have to think about leaving mine downstairs in the kitchen. :-)

  24. He's gorgeous. I was having a hard time adjusting to the weather in Massachusetts but I've had a pair of red cardinals visiting me daily. It really has made a difference. I never would have seen one in California.

  27. I just can't believe you posted this picture of a Indigo Bunting! In honor of Mother's Day...this little bird brought hours of pleasure to my Mom..it was her favorite...everytime I see one while driving, etc....it makes me think of her. They are different than a Eastern Bluebird, they have a pinkish breast, and the Indigo Bunting is more rare. Thanks Wanda! Happy Mother's Day to all the quilting ladies!

  29. Gorgeous Indigo. They tend to like thickets and little urbanization so one doesn't see them often. We do have them our neck of the TN woods and, because we back open fields with overgrown hedgerows see them at our feeders regularly. You were luck the light was just right because they can appear almost black - another reason why you might not spot them often. Enjoy!
