I have said for several years that all the magazines are are new fabrics with old patterns. Or they are set on point or sashed different. In fact I saw a Log Cabin pattern and thought of you. Chris
That quilt does look more modern! A friend gave me some old (1970s) quilting books and they haven't been very useful because every pattern uses a template since that was pre-rotary cutting. Often you can translate them, but they are mostly the same patterns that are out there now.
Our techniques and fabrics may change, but I totally agree with your observation that the designs go round and round. That green quilt is wonderful, and even the composition of the photo looks so modern.
As they say "What goes around, comes around". I am seeing things that I made years ago when I was a young woman and into crafts, in quilt shops now. In fact, I saw a patchwork Santa in a quilt store today that was similar to one I made in the 60s. It is nice to see them refreshed and brought up to date.
I find it interesting when patterns are copyrighted and really they are reprints of old patterns, just new fabrics. Nice that it was in color, all the older quilting books I recieved were in blk & wht.

How neat is that! Don't you just love rediscovering these gems? Which book do you think gives the best instructions?
Very interesting! Is there anything new to be discovered out there?
Oh no, Wanda! Don't show me that! Now I want to start another hexagon quilt!
I guess it just goes to prove that you should never throw out books just because they are old - lol!
Wonderful quilt created by someone who was ahead of her time. Thanks for sharing it!
That IS one fabulous photo!!!
I've been having fun making spiderwebs in cheddar with some terrific scraps!
Beautiful photo! What a treasure trove your basement must be.
Nice that the "oldie" has color photos ... speaking of which, I love how the quilt is photographed in a natural, complimentary setting.
Thanks for sharing!
This was a great post today. I too love the display with the green foliage . And the piece is awesome.

That's a pretty quilt--the quilter was obviously ahead of her time!

Oh my goodness! That was one of my first patchwork books that I ever bought! I recently came across my copy too!
Yes, so true. If we wait long enough, everything comes back as "new". Beautiful Winding Ways quilt.
Looks beautiful - what a find!
