Moving things around.....

While cleaning off the top of my sewing cabinet, I decided to sew some of the really skinny pieces together.  I got up with a headache yesterday so this was all I accomplished other than moving things from one place to another.

This will give you a little perspective on how narrow some of the strips were.  Some finished at less than a quarter inch.

My son came over and replaced one of my 8 ft. fluorescent bulbs in my studio.  I just can't get up there and do them any more.  It makes me feel like a wimp, but I'm more concerned with my safety.  With age comes wisdom.

This is the drawer in my sewing cabinet.  I moved a bunch of bobbins here from the drawer unit that was by my old cabinet.  Now I can wind about a dozen bobbins with neutral color thread.  I am moving all of my studio furniture around for a different arrangement for the summer.  Luckily it is all on wheels except the 3 tall bookcases which aren't going to be moved anyway.

I hope I get a great idea for a journal quilt today, because if I don't that will be 2 weeks I missed.  The momentum will be lost so I need to be creative today.........

  1. it is hard coming up with ideas sometimes, I have not sewed on anything all week - I will have to get but when I get home later today finally.

  2. I hope you are feeling better. Maybe more play in your remnant bin will inspire a journal idea today. Yeah for helpful sons!

  4. skinny, skinny and fun. Lets hope you get some good creative vibes going today.

…and hey - my friend was just over here changing out those flourescent bulbs, too. Didn't work. Turns out my ballast is bad. :(

  6. What would we do without sons? I love your skinny left-overs. Let those creative juices flow, Wanda. I am going to work on a journal quilt today too.

  7. Don't worry about momentum.... if you don't have any ideas, you probably need to just go out and play... get out some books, or go look at your garden. You can't produce if you're not being filled up with ideas and inspiration.

On a totally non-creative topic... you mentioned you use neutral bobbin threads... can you show us the back of some of your quilts? I'm always curious how other people's look.

  8. I like what you've done with your skinny strips, Wanda. I think if you enlarge the first piece, it would make a lovely journal quilt.

I hope you are feeling better today!

  9. Hope your head is better now.
    The skinnys look great.
Wise move asking your son to do the flouros. You would have more than a headache if you fell off the ladder.
Did you get any ideas for the Journal Quilt???

  10. Many people take pride in being able to do everything on their own. We always fear bothering others; instead, you give him a chance to be useful and to feel good about it.

  11. Those narrow pieced really add a spark in the piece. How do you handle sewing that with a headache. I hope you are feeling better.

That drawer is much too tidy!!! I am glad that you let your son replace the bulb. Those high places can be dangerous for us!

Good luck with the journal quilt. I know you can do it.

  12. Cute little shinny strips! Didn't realize some of those strips were that skinny. Back to my trash can :)
Hope your head gets better. It's difficult to function, much less be creative with you aren't feeling well.

  14. Love that skinny strip piece. Could that be your inspiration????

Moving things around usually sparks my creativity too. Perhaps when the headache is gone things will start jiving again.

I am with you on being cautious. The last thing I want is to be layed up with a broken leg, hip or arm. So I swallow my pride and ask for help now too.

  16. Well, I guess I just have not gained wisdom then, I just recently climbed up on the furniture to change my bulbs. Oh, well, maybe it just means that I'm younger than I think I am. And, see, you should be doing a monthly journal, like me. I even started thinking about April this week. Of course nothing came to mind. :-(

  17. I just got done painting, and setting up new shelving for my quilt room. It feels so wonderful to have the room set up. I hope you enjoy your room as well.

  18. Hope by now your headache is gone. I did some rearranging recently and now the sewing room is a mess as I am working on an applique quilt that I am designing. I have scraps everywhere. Maybe I should start sewing the scrap strips I have together. I just never seemm to get to it. Your scraps look better than mine.

  19. What sewing machine do you have? Are you pleased with it? I'm thinking of buying a new machine and am trying to pick people's brains - it's such an investment!
