The day started out great......

Yesterday morning my sister in law stopped by and we exchanged gifts and chatted awhile.  After lunch I sewed the binding on this Christmas quilt and washed and dried it.

This is its official portrait for my folder that contains photos of all of the quilts that I have quilted on my longarm machine.

I may have to go back with my regular sewing machine and tack down the embroideries in a few places because they are pouching out.

At 4 I went to Dad's to check on him and his wrist was extremely painful so I gave him 2 Tylenol and turned on the TV to distract him.  At 5:30 when my brother and I got there with pizza, he was still complaining that his wrist was painful.  He wanted to go to the ER.  I don't think he fell and it is probably arthritis but I couldn't take any chances.  We quickly ate and then took him to the ER.  2 hours later he left with his arm in a sling and a temporary cast and totally unable to hold onto his walker which he needs because he is so unsteady. He also needed ice packs all night.  An hour later we checked him into the nursing home next door to his apt. for a few days.  I got home after 9, exhausted.  I'll find out the results of the X-rays this morning.

Added noon today: no broken bones.  He will stay at the nursing home for at least 2 days until he is steady with his walker again.

  5. Love the quilt, Wanda. It looks very inviting for snuggling. So sorry about your dad. Here's hoping for a simple recovery as I know he needs that arm for the walker. In my prayers...

  8. With an elderly parent, there is always something. My neighbor's MIL fell on the day the neighbor was having 200 people for a holiday open house. How fortunate for you to have nursing home care available for your dad. That will take some pressure off you. Love your quilts and your blog. Will you show us a picture of your mid arm machine?

  9. Hi Wanda,
It's great there is an option for your dad to get more intense care if needed. Sounds like he's in good hands for now.
Your quilt looks very cuddly and warm. Now you need to take a nap under it!
    Take care.

  14. I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. I hope that nothing is broken or anything seriously wrong. This weather is enough to make anyone hurt.

Remember to take good care of yourself so you don't get totally worn out and sick. (I know I sound like a broken record but it's important. You can't help anybody else if you can't help yourself.)

  18. I am so sorry to hear about his wrist. The ER is never fun and even less fun at this time of the year. Hope he is better today.

I rather like how the embroidery pops out from the quilting. My Christmas quilt from last year did that around the embroidery.

    Merry Christmas.

  20. I did a quick run through of this past week... And like you this is the week we are racing the clock a bit to get all of our "baking and making" completed.

Hopefully with your Dad getting extra attention his wrist will mend quickly for him. He sure has paid his dues this past year.

I think you should not give that pouching a second thought. It gives the quilt dimension. It has finished beautifully. Denim is one of my favorite fabrics to use and wear. It is a delightful quilt !

  23. Oh, Wanda, I'm so sad for him. It's so hard to have sad things happen when everyone else is celebrating. I'm glad the nursing home is able to step up to the plate, and hope you'll be making some lovely Christmas memories and resting up.
