Today the Catholic church is moving from the center of town up to the north west corner next to their parish center. It needs to travel one block west, then about 9 blocks north and then west a few blocks. It looks small with the front porch removed and the room that was attached at the back missing.
Here is the basement hole that is left on the corner across from the post office. It will be strange to see that corner empty and with the economy the way it is, I wonder how soon anything will go on that land. I got an automated call from ComEd 2 nights ago telling me that my area may experience some electicity outages because of work in the area from 9-3 today. I guess I will do some rotary cutting, or maybe I should go out and clean up my flower beds. I may not be affected because I'm on a different line than the street one block over but just in case I'll have the sewing machines unplugged in case of a power surge.
I enjoying seeing what goes on in the places my blogging friends live. Makes me feel closer to them somehow.
ReplyDeleteHow fascinating it would be to see a building moved!
ReplyDeleteDon't forget to turn off your computer too!
That is really moving day! Wouldn't it be nice that every time someone wanted to move, they just picked up their house and went?
ReplyDeleteSo interesting that whole building can be moved.
ReplyDeleteIt always amazes me to see a building being moved. I expect it to collapse like a house of cards.
ReplyDeleteNice to see them still using the church instead of just tearing it down - most likely cost less to move then to rebuild.
ReplyDeleteHave a good day.

Looks interesting. Friends of ours had their house moved because it had been declared an historic site and the people who had bought their land wanted to build houses all around it. It cost more to move it than to just leave it and rebuild a new place, but they wanted to live in an historic site.
ReplyDeleteHi Wanda, Great pics this morning!! What a move!!jmh
ReplyDeleteWe have a saying in German: "You better let the church remain in the village" -- means "be sensible!" or "don't try to change everything".
ReplyDeleteWow! What a way to move!!! Good thinking to leave the sewing machines unplugged ;)
