Successful QOV sew in, more shopping............
We got 2 of these sewn together, made from 4.5" strips.
We are working with donated fabrics so there is a wide variety of color in every quilt.
We got one pinwheel quilt designed ready to sew, and enough left over blocks for half of another one. This one used 3.5" strips.
We have enough of the same blocks made with 2.5" strips for 2 more quilts.
Also three quilt tops were sewn together from blocks created at the last meeting. A few tops need borders to be finished.
We meet at Prairie Shop Quilts in Batavia, IL so when we take a break from sewing, we shop. Here are 3 of the batiks that came home with me. The 2 on the left have even more multicolor than shows in the photo. They are yummy!!
You were very productive at your sew in. Some beautiful quilts too. But of course, you must shop and your batiks that you chose are just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHa....great quilts and GREAT shopping!!! I love the multicolor batiks!
ReplyDeleteVery cool! Man, I wish I could still join you guys on Tuesdays! I'm still working on my bargello for QOV.
ReplyDeleteWanda, I sure am glad you know what we got done yesterday. I just know we sewed and sewed and sewed! Cecily, you're there in spirit and I know you'll be back. We miss you and your Mom as well.
ReplyDeleteHi I follow you blog and enjoy your use of bright and exuberant color, but these quilts for Quilt of Valor, are really dull, and just plain ugly. the Quilt of Valor quilts are to give comfort to wounded soldiers, who were injured representing our country and who's lives will NEVER be the same. Would you like to know that people at home cared so little about you that they couldn't even find or buy nice fabric. If you were severely injured would you like to rest under one of these quilts?? I think not. I have made 11 Quilt of Valor quilts, each one did not cost much, but all were bright red white and blue. Show some love and support to those who have given so much, even too much for our country.
ReplyDeleteyour group sure is productive! Love the batiks that you chose.

Jackie B, since there is no way to contact you personally I will respond to your comment here. You evidently don't like scrap quilts. Scrap quilts tend to be the favorites for lots of people, and not every soldier wants a red, white, and blue quilt. In fact MANY request that theirs be other color combinations when they are allowed to choose their quilt.
ReplyDeleteThanks Wanda for saying what I feel.
ReplyDeleteI know that no matter what you give a returning soldier, anyway we can say thank you to them ,is greatly appreciated.
It is very humbling to see how just a simple Thank You and a handshake , makes them swell with pride.
So the color of a quilt is not as important as the love that goes into the effort to show how much we care.
My military daughter says "it is not what it is as much as the thought that counts "!

ReplyDeleteYou guys make awesome quilts with that donated fabric. They are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYUM!!! Those are amazing batiks.
You get so much accomplished at those sew-ins!! Those quilts must be treasured by the recipients.
ReplyDeleteThose batiks are absolutely yummy!!
Love the quilts as always Wanda. Keep up the very important work.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE these quilts, and it means a lot that you are able to take fabric donated and turn that gift into something beautiful, useful and a testimony to the love, respect and grattitude we feel for those we have shown their willingness to fight and to die for us. I'm sure that each and every one will be a comfort and a blessing to the one who receives it.
ReplyDeleteYour new fabric is delightful. I'm sure it will turn into something truly beautiful. Can't wait to see. I've been following your lead and cutting leftover fabric into strips and squares and storing them already labeled and sorted. We'll see if I ever begin to match your creativity.
Wow! You certainly get lots done at your sew ins. I love the way you have used the donated fabrics. Wonderful shopping too! Great batiks.
