Sewing rows

I have sewn the upper right and lower left rows and am now working on the 4 longest rows.  Next I need to choose the setting triangle fabric.  That will probably be the hardest part of the whole quilt.

I have to show you the monster size plants in my porch pots.  I have never had them grow to 3 feet tall before.  You can see how much taller they are than the table sitting next to them.  They have had plenty of fresh rain water all summer and of course plenty of sunshine.  I'm surprised they aren't sunburned like the ones in front of my garage.

A lot of them are taller than the railing.  I'll have to look at the tags and see what the dark red plant is.  The coleus in the previous picture is one of the tall ones too.  The 2 little hostas were planted in the pots last year and I have offered them to several people but no one has taken them yet.

This is one of the viney plants in the lowest pot.  They are such a pretty color of soft red.  The sun is shining on them here and they look pink but they really are more of a red.

It was really hot today and there are supposed to be 2 more hot days before we get relief.  Then next week they are predicting a couple days in the high 70's.  That sounds too good to be true.

  1. The quilt is looking just wonderful!! The setting triangles, I think, will be a breeze considering all the rest you have done. The plants look gorgeous! I wish that we had as much rain as you. Our lawn is so burnt out. I think the flowers in the last photo are called Million Bells. If you google it, you will get tons of info on them. I love them because they look like tiny petunias.

  2. Wanda, you amaze me - is it true that the setting fabric presents your biggest challenge? What are we going to do with our 'identical' Kaffe floral? Mine is hanging over the door, waiting for you to begin! P.S. PLEASE. SEND. RAIN.

  3. Your plants are looking so happy! Love the red/pink flowers.
We are still having windy, cold days and some rainy days and nights.
Your setting triangles will 'come to be' I am sure.

  8. Your long hot steamy summer shows you what your plants can do. Although I have never seen coleus get that tall.

Can you imagine, we have had temps in the high 70's all week? And with rain... we are classified as high desert, so to get the rain it is always welcome.

  9. This is one of my fav quilts that you have posted about. Wow, I definitely will store this layout in the back of my project box. Here in the Pacific NW we are heading into a heat wave, we thought we were finished with the really hot days, but they are saying, "rewriting the record books over the weekend and into next week" Quilting in the basement, whoohoo

  11. It has been a strange growing season this year. We had more tomatoes than we've ever had, but now the garden is totally dried up and gone except for a few banana pepper plants.

  12. I really love that quilt! Great layout. I am sure you will find just the right fabric for the setting triangles. Your plants are doing well. Mine are huge this year too. Is that red one a Calibrachoa (million bells)? I love those! I am looking forward to some cooler days next week too, but the humidity will still be high and will make it feel much hotter than it is.
