Another hot humid day..............

The tiger lilies are in full bloom now.  The tallest ones are over 5 feet tall.

Just look at all of the orange beauty.

This is one of the few Rose of Sharon buds that hasn't been touched by the Japanese beetles.  They are munching on most of the buds before they even open.

I taught a finishing class yesterday.  Carol usually has her pieces down off the design wall before I can get a picture, but I beat her to it this time.  She is trying to finish her Bento Box quilt.  She had a lot of blocks sewn before she left.

Sue brought her Bento Box too so she could make a decision about a border (which I didn't get a picture of).  She used a lot of batiks and Kaffe fabrics.

I just saw the prediction for our summer weather tonight.  It is supposed to stay hot and humid all summer.  I really enjoyed the cool summer we had last year and I'm not looking forward to running the A/C so much.  Our mosquitoes are fierce this year too with all the rain we had up through June.  I'm just an indoor girl in this type of weather.

  1. Your tiger lilies are gorgeous and thanks for sharing pictures from your students.

I'm with you on liking last year's cooler summer. It's so hot here that our AC is just making a dent in the humidity but not much on the heat. This hasn't been good for sewing time since that room faces west and it's not very pleasant at the moment. I'm hoping things will clear for the weekend and I can get back to sewing.

  3. The flowers are just beautiful!! The bento box quilts are fabulous too. As far as our weather goes, we have had very little rain. Our grass is now brown and crunchy. We really could use some. I guess I am opposite when it comes to weather, I really enjoy the heat. It doesn't bother me so much.

  4. THe vividness of the colour in those lilies is fabulous!! I think we're having the same weather this summer. Right now it's absolutely pouring down and it sounds as thought we get 3 days of respite and then back up into the very high humidity.

  5. Your flowers are gorgeous.

The heat here is unbearable too. I will probably go into shock when my electric bill comes in.
Isn't it a shame we can't save some of the summer heat in tanks to heat our homes in the winter?

  8. Your flower bed is grand! The lilies are outdoing themselves! Yes, the heat/humidity is fierce everywhere it seems this year. So thankful for air, we can keep sewing at least! The quilt tops are so interesting, example of how different two people can make the same top! Thank you for a lovely blog!

  9. We bought our home w/o air conditioning. We were assured by the previous owners that because we were on a hill, we would always have a cool breeze. I beg to differ. It's gonna be a long summer. We do enjoy the picture postcard vistas though.

Ditto on the heat and the mosquitoes. I'm an indoor girl too. Thank goodness for fans.

  10. I haven't seen the weather outlook for out west but it too right now anyhow seems to be hotter than I remember it being out here. At least right now it is not humid.
I love the Rose of Sharon I would like to get that plant one day.
    Love the quilts.

  11. Love the bento boxes. Your tiger lilies are tall! I think I will have to add some of these to my new gardens. Maybe along the house where they can spread!
It's hot here too. Not used to this and unsure if it means LOTS of snow this winter for us!! Try to make the best of it:)

  13. I too love those lilies, I just wish they bloomed longer. I have bee balm (see blog) and the perennial blooms for almost two months! Humming birds just love them.
We have had a heat wave here in Ontario with temps up to 100 degrees, plus humidity. The cottage has been warm to say the leat.
It has passed, taken away by a huge thunder storm that rolled through here yesterday...Ah the low 70s seems cool after the heat wave.
    The bento is wonderful...

  15. I'm with you, Wanda. The heat and humidity is a misery for me. I miss being able to enjoy some time outside that isn't dawn or dusk!

  19. Gorgeous garden again this year. WE are having the same weather and the same mosquitos! I can hardly be in my veg. garden without using spray.

I do like it warmer than last year though but not this warm! Today is good because the humidity is down. :)

  20. Beautiful tiger lilies and wonderful Bento Box quilts. I have often thought about making Bento Boxes - just never have- perhaps I will try it this summer when I get some UFO's finished. I have a BQ quilt couch quilt laying on the floor waiting to go together.
    Thanks for sharing.
    Regards,
    Anna
