I took advantage of my clean cutting table in the basement and cut all of the scraps from the preemie layettes (that we make at church) into squares to make into little quilts for the preemie ward.
I sewed all of the littlest squares into 4 patches to pair with plain squares.
I will get 4 little quilts out of all of that cutting. I also pieced some backings out of the larger scraps.
This is how I store all of the squares that are left over. By putting them in separate boxes that are marked with the sizes, I don't have to go back and measure all of them when I cut the next batch to add to them.

Those little boxes are perfect for storing the squares. Good organization sometimes is the key to quick progress.
Do you want to move in here and get me organized??? LOL I have been better about doing that and my Mother said will you use all those squares. For one quilt I had to cut lots more. Chris
I am sure the parents will love those wee quilts.
I also put all my different squares into tins.
I like those boxes for storage and good idea of indicating the size of squares inside. I need to get my scrap boxes back down and reorganize them one day and put sizes together.

I truly admire people who are busy, but find time to do for others. The little quilts for the premie ward are such a nice thing. You are a special person to make time to do good things for others.
Great idea for storing different size cuts. I hope you'll show us your preemie quilt when it's finished.
I'm hoping to sew some of them myself for my local NICU.
Such a beautiful, thoughtful act. You are truly a special person.
Nicely organized! How big do you usually make your preeme quilts? I am sure the quilts will be treasured by the familes that received them.
You are Wandafully organized! Wished I was even just a little. Those premie quilts will be lovely. How big do they end up?
Wanda, you so inspire me to be more organized and brave to cut up my scraps. The preemie quilts are adorable. Do you quilt them or tie them? We also do some thru our Guild.
Great idea and perfect storage idea.
You are so efficient! I just love to watch how you work and see all your tips. i enjoy doing baby quilts- they are so fast-- which is why I just purchased fabric to sue when I have the next urge to do some.
You are SO organized! Those boxes are a fabulous idea for storing your cut pieces.
What a great system for being organized with projects like this!
You are so incredibly organized! Good idea to notate the sizes of the squares.
Good organisation is the key to having enough time to quilt for good causes as well as yourself!
Thanks for this posting. I am researching preemie quilts as I am on bedrest at the hospital, wanted to start something for my baby who will be born early. They use the quilts to cover the isolettes in the nicu. Can you tell me what backing you use? Some instructions say just flannel, no batting? I am looking for a simple pattern that my friends can make for us. Please keep us in your thoughts : )
